Guildford Greenbelt Group

Guildford Greenbelt Group Protecting Guildford’s precious Greenbelt. Right number of the right kind of homes in the right place Why was the Guildford Greenbelt Group formed?

Many questions were raised over the integrity of some of the evidence used to support the Issues & options questionnaire that GBC (Guildford Borough Council) used to form the basis of the Local Plan. Dissatisfied by planners' continued claims that the evidence was 'robust' (including the highly controversial Countryside & Greenbelt study), residents came together to share expertise, pool ideas and

work alongside other leading Organisations, who wish to protect one of Surrey's and indeed this Country's most important assets, its countryside and its Greenbelt. We support and work alongside other local Organisations,

We favour Countryside development that supports the countryside eg. parks, gardens, walks, fishing, cycling routes, organic farms, film location etc

We favour underground carparks, urban regeneration and intelligent use of brownfield sites that optimise rather than minimise their use. We support the building of new homes, particularly affordable homes for LOCAL NEED. We believe this can be done, without building on Greenfield / Greenbelt sites and without spoiling the character of Guildford town centre. We do not support building on Greenbelt, AONB or greenfield sites. We did not support removal of Greenbelt protection from Villages.

You may wish to add your name to this petition of CPRE’s.

The wording is:

“I support CPRE, the countryside charity's campaign calling on the next government to deliver more affordable and social housing across the country.”

In the Guildford area, ‘affordable’ can only mean ‘small’. And ‘social housing’ is to rent from a local council.

CPRE states that

“at current rates of construction, it would take 93 years for the 300,000 people on social housing waiting lists in rural England to be offered a home.”!

Add your name and support our call for the delivery of more genuinely affordable homes across the country.
