Local children were involved in the design of the new facility and came along to celebrate the opening of this wonderful play park, which replaces the previous play area in Cambusnethan Memorial Park.
Convener of Communities Geraldine Woods, Depute Leader of the council Louise Roarty, and local councillor Robert McKendrick also attended the event.
The project was developed by the Community Partnership Team, working closely with pupils from local primary schools and the wider community.
The jungle-themed facility includes both a junior and toddler climbing unit with slides, as well as various climbing frames and poles.
The play area also features a range of swings, including a basket swing and baby swing, an inclusive roundabout, trampoline, monkey springer, sensory play panels, metal tightrope, cableway and a pyramid rope climber.
Councillor Woods said: “This is a fantastic new facility which will be welcomed by families in the community.
“Two new picnic benches have been installed to provide seating for adults and families to enjoy the park.
“Funding of £100,000 came from the Local Development Programme, which is managed by the council’s Community Partnership Team.”
The play area sign was designed by Lucia McLeary, a P7 pupil at Wishaw Academy Primary School, who won the ‘Design-a-Sign’ competition and officially opened the park. Her sister Jodie was the runner-up.
The official opening took place in June 2026.

Danger – Keep out
We've had reports of young people entering a live building site at Gorsehall Street, Cleland and climbing on scaffolding. The site is fenced off for public safety.

Building sites can pose many hazards and entering them illegally is very dangerous. We are continuing to work closely with contractors and Police Scotland to keep the site safe. We’d kindly ask parents and carers to speak to young people about the risks and help keep everyone safe.

If you see anyone entering the site without permission, please call Police Scotland on 101; or 999 in an emergency.
