Winwick Parish Council would like to offer huge congratulations to everyone involved with the Winwick Litter Network following the presentation
of the King’s Award for Voluntary Service at Warrington Town Hall yesterday.

This is an incredible achievement and a fitting recognition of the countless hours volunteers give to helping keep Winwick and the wider Warrington area clean, tidy and welcoming for everyone.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award a voluntary group can receive and is often described as the MBE for volunteer groups. To be one of only two litter groups across the UK and Northern Ireland to receive the award in 2025 is something everyone connected with the network should be immensely proud of.

Special congratulations to George Melvin, Dave Taylor, Bob Towers, Parish Cllr Emma Lavender, Parish Cllr Wendy Rennison and all of the volunteers who represented Winwick at the ceremony, alongside volunteers from across Warrington including Croft Litter Network, Peel Hall Litter team and the Woody Wombles in Burtonwood.

Whether in the wind, rain or sunshine, the dedication shown by volunteers week after week makes a real difference to our communities and sets a fantastic example of community spirit in action.

Well done to everybody involved on this truly well-deserved recognition.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Good afternoon

A number of parish cllrs have been contacted by residents over the past few weeks, with regard to dogs being off the lead on the parish owned park at the Winwick Community Centre

Please can the parish remind ALL owners of dogs, that for safety reasons, ALL dogs need to stay on the lead.

Residents with dogs must also remember that the park is a children’s play area as well as a site used by local youth football clubs such as Winwick Athletic.

If the council are contacted again over such incidents, further action may be required, which other parishes such as Croft, have put into place.
Main one being a ‘No Dog’ rule.

We would hope that such a strong decision isn’t needed and all owners keep dogs on lead and pick up after them using the bags provided at the gate entrances.

If anyone wishes to speak more about this notice, the parish council will be meeting next Tuesday evening at 7:30pm at the community centre.

WPC

𝐏𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞

Further to previous updates, we have now been advised that full works for the creation of the new entrance to the Peel Hall development off Mill Lane are expected to begin towards the end of April / early May, with preliminary works already underway.

Residents may have already noticed blue markings appearing on sections of the existing road.

These are being used to “mark out” the probable route of the new road layout as part of the early stages of the scheme.

Work will start away from the current highway first and wherever possible, before the works on the roundabout begin.
Traffic in either direction will be signalised.

Please plan any journey accordingly as the works will cause some delays.

If you have any questions or concerns, further information and contact details are available via the Parish Council website:

We’re pleased to share this important update from the The Battlefields Trust regarding the historic Battle of Winwick (1648) — one of the most significant and best-preserved battlefields from the English Civil War.

The site, where Parliamentarian forces defeated the Royalists in August 1648, is recognised as a nationally important heritage asset and remains a key part of our local history.

Winwick Parish Council has been actively involved in ongoing discussions with the Battle of Winwick Society, and we are committed to supporting efforts to protect, promote and properly recognise this historic landscape.

Cllr Herron will continue to work closely with the Society and other partners to ensure that the significance of the battlefield is fully understood and preserved for future generations.

Please follow the Battle of Winwick Society - 1648 page to keep up to date with their latest work and progress.

Winwick Parish Council is pleased to be working in partnership with Warrington Borough Council to deliver improvements to local infrastructure partially using Section 106 funding from the St Oswald’s Place development.

Work has started today to replace the older, worn bus shelters along Myddleton Lane.

These will be like for like replacements.

The first shelter, located outside Winwick CE Primary School, is now being upgraded, with the remaining two shelters on the road due to be replaced over the coming week.

These improvements will provide safer, more modern, and more comfortable facilities for residents and school users.

⚠️ Please note: Temporary traffic management, including lights, will be in place while the works are carried out. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Thank you for your understanding as we invest in improving local amenities for our community.
