Dr Ben Spencer and Surrey County Cllr Jonathan Hulley met Graham Construction face to face this morning to raise concerns about the Holloway Hill closure and its impact.
Thank you again to everyone who has responded to the survey so far. I’ve also been told Graham Construction are still working on a reply to my email, and I will share any update as soon as I receive it.
It’s good to see these concerns continuing to be raised directly in person, and that this pressure is helping move things in the right direction.
This morning I visited the roadworks at Holloway Hill where I met with representatives from Graham, the construction company carrying out the A320 works, Salesian School Headteacher Paul Gower, the school’s business manager and Cllr Jonathan Hulley.
This was an opportunity to discuss many of the issues residents have been raising and I am pleased that many of these are already being addressed. These include:
Pedestrian access: Pedestrian access is now in place on both Holloway Hill and Hardwick Lane. Initial plans had not included access on Hardwick Lane as there is no current walkway, however I am pleased the project team have listened to residents and implemented this change, which will be a real help for students and residents who live or work nearby.
White Lodge: Road closure signs on Holloway Hill have been updated to highlight that White Lodge is still accessible. Signs are also in place at both hospital entrances to highlight there is no access through the hospital site.
Businesses: Signage has been put in place at locations across the area to highlight businesses are still open and accessible. However, if there is need for additional signage in locations not currently identified the project team are happy to support additional requests where possible.
It was also great to see that traffic was flowing smoothly on the A320 past Holloway Hill this morning, but I know that the works are causing additional traffic in other areas. I raised concerns around the impact on the Ottershaw Roundabout, and around Ruxbury Road and Pyrcroft Road, and I also highlighted frustration that cones and lane closures remain on and around the St Peters Roundabout. I will continue to press for the removal of these as soon as possible.
Projects of this scale will always cause some disruption, which is why engagement and clear communication is vital. As with our last meeting, it was acknowledged that this is an area where improvements are needed, and I welcome the open and constructive discussion we had today.
To help ensure improvements Graham and SCC have agreed to hold weekly meetings, so please do continue to raise any issues or concerns with me and local Cllrs.
