Did you know that both Spring Park and West Wickham Common are included in one section of the London Loop trail?

Section 4 of the London Loop from West Wickham Common to Hamsey Green is one of the most wooded sections of the 150-mile walking trail. It includes a fair amount of climbing offering walkers some beautiful and far-reaching views of both city and countryside around Coney Hall and the Addington Hills.

You can download the route on Transport for London's website: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/walking/loop-walk

Spring Park contains one of the best examples of Ancient Woodland in the local area.

The dominant species are oak, followed by sweet chestnut, small-leaved lime, and hazel with smaller populations of silver and downy birch, beech, and alder.

Ancient Woodland in England can be defined as areas of woodland that have persisted since 1600! Because of this, they are some of the richest and most complex terrestrial habitats but only cover a very small portion of the UK.

The bluebells are starting to emerge at Spring Park.

Bluebells appear each Spring in abundance across ancient woodlands, creating an intoxicating scent that's hard to miss. Almost half the world’s bluebells are found in the UK and are a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

They are a delight to see but please help us protect these precious perennials for future generations to enjoy by keeping to paths and not picking them.
