Mental Health Awareness Week
12th – 18th May 2025

Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has been leading Mental Health Awareness Week – bringing the UK together to focus on getting good mental health. This year, the week takes place from the 12th to 18th May 2025.
We want to use this week to celebrate the power and importance of ‘Community’.
Being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us, we are not alone.
Communities can provide a sense of belonging, safety, support in hard times, and give us a sense of purpose.
This year, help us change attitudes towards mental health awareness at Walsall College. You can help create a community that works for people, their families, your students and colleagues.
Come along to the LRC and take a look at our range of wide and varied resources and support sessions to help you increase your knowledge of mental health and better support the whole Walsall College community.

Victory in Europe Day (VE Day)
8th May 2025
80 years of peace

On 8th May 2025, we celebrate the historic anniversary of VE Day, with the people, families and communities of the UK coming together to unite and celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe that so many millions paid the ultimate sacrifice to achieve.

VE Day is not only a tribute to those who fought for freedom, but also a reminder of the resilience and unity that has defined the UK ever since.

“Together, we honour the past and celebrate a future built on unity, hope, love and peace”. *

Come along to the LRC and see our commemorative display.

The LRC has a range of resources to help you understand the history of this momentous occasion and the pride and reflection that many communities will celebrate on this memorable day.

Please ask the LRC team for more information or pop along and take a look for yourself.

Happy World Book Night
April 2025

This week the LRC team are celebrating World Book Night.

World Book Night, celebrated annually on April 23rd, encourages people to engage with reading and celebrate the joy of books. The theme for 2025 is "Read Your Way," emphasising the importance of reading for pleasure and allowing individuals to explore their own reading preferences. This year's campaign aims to inspire people to read more, regardless of their reading habits or abilities, and to rediscover the power of books.

To celebrate WBN, the LRC has:
*pre-loved books to give away in the LRC
*a Quick Read book display in the LRC window
*added 2 copies of each of the 2025 Quick Reads to our catalogue for staff and students to borrow

Quick Reads are short books and great stories by bestselling authors, written in an accessible and easy to read style. They’re a valuable tool for boosting reading skills, confidence and engagement in learning, and have led to thousands of adults reading, completing and enjoying a book for the first time.
