It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former Councillor Keith Sears.

Keith was a stalwart of Walsall politics - a man who dedicated 50 years to serving the residents of Aldridge North and Walsall Wood and the Borough of Walsall.

Those who knew Keith knew he was loyal, passionate and full of energy. His kindness and jolly nature was loved by all. Having been the Mayor of Walsall from 1994-1995, his commitment to his civic role was commendable.

He wasnโ€™t a man of many words, but when he spoke he was well worth listening to.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Keithโ€™s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.

RIP Keith

I recently spoke out against fly-tippers and those who drop litter, creating a blight on our local communities. Itโ€™s time for stronger action against those who think our streets and country lanes are a dumping ground!

While Conservative-run Walsall Council is leading the way and already getting tough on this issue, deploying new CCTV in hotspots and issuing fines to those responsible. I believe the Government needs to take action and go further - thatโ€™s why I spoke up in Parliament last week to fully support measures such as adding points to the driving licenses of those caught fly-tipping.

More must be done!

Update on incident from yesterday from Councillor Adam Hicken:

I am pleased that with the aid of the Sikh community it has been found that no attack took place.

Whilst what happened is personal to the child and I wonโ€™t share it, it does highlight how difficult situations can be.

Iโ€™d rather we do too much because we care than not enough, and Iโ€™m thankful to everyone who reacted swiftly based on what appeared to be a very serious incident at the time.

I hope the family gets the privacy they need and any support that is required.

Attacks against people because of their race, religion or background are completely unacceptable. To see a child targeted in this way is deeply disturbing and frankly disgusting. We cannot sit in silence and pretend that targeted attacks are not happening. Our communities deserve better than that.

The Sikhs are a proud community and an integral part of the fabric of Walsall. I know Walsall will be joining me in condemning any attacks against the Sikh community.

Police are investigating and anyone with information should contact them immediately. In the meantime, I have ordered additional patrols and the installation of further CCTV in the area. I will also be reaching out to members of the Sikh community and local Gurdwaras over the coming days to ensure they have the support they need.

Recently in Parliament, the Secretary of State for Housing said, โ€œlocal people know best.โ€

I took him at his word and formally invited him to meet with me and the residents of Aldridge-Brownhills Constituency to join our peaceful protest. We want to show him our precious Green Belt and agricultural land firsthand and ask how he can possibly justify reclassifying it as "Grey Belt."

To no one's surprise, his diary is "already full." ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ“…

I know many of you will be shocked and angered by this dismissal and I share that frustration. But we won't be ignored! This only proves why it is so vital that we turn out in force to make our voices heard!

๐Ÿ“ข JOIN THE PROTEST:

A huge thank you to every resident who is helping to organise and who will be attending our peaceful protest to protect our precious Green Belt and Green Spaces.

Setting politics aside, we are standing together to voice our total opposition to the Government's plan to reclassify our Green Belt as "Grey Belt."

This is about standing shoulder to shoulder and protecting our communityโ€™s future!

Like most residents I am dismayed that the unelected and unaccountable Planning Inspectorate have overturned the decision of Walsall Council to allow development of up to 115 homes on the Green Belt at Longwood Lane.

You donโ€™t have to be an expert in planning to know that this site is not โ€˜Greyโ€™ it is โ€˜Greenโ€™ โ€“ Green Belt.

I will continue to fight to protect our precious Green Belt for all future generations.

Let me also take this opportunity to ask as many of you as possible to join us on The Croft in Aldridge at 12-noon on Saturday 28th February to support of our Green Belt and stand together against the over development of all the communities across Aldridge-Brownhills.

I hope to see you all there.

It was a pleasure meeting with the Asda team in Parliament and to be able to personally thank them for the incredible work the Asda Foundation does locally.

Their recent contribution of ยฃ3,700 to vital organisations such as the Pelsall Community and Arts Centre and the Collingwood Centre, makes a real difference.

Iโ€™m also excited to hear that the next round of grants will go live this spring - a fantastic opportunity for our community to benefit once again.
