Restaurant – Manjaros - Newcastle
Time - 12.00

We visited Manjaros in Newcastle, we did call ahead to check there was a ramp to access the restaurant. On arrival staff come straight out however once set up , the ramp was extremely close to the curb of the main road.

We felt really nervous using the assessable entrance due to not having a lot of room to manoeuvre onto the ramp.

Our support staff helped us drive safely in our power chars. We all agreed we wouldn’t have been able to access the restaurant without our support staff with us.

There is no automatic doors, just glass doors that open inward and it was a bit of a tight squeeze to get actually into the restaurant.

There was room to manoeuvre if you went round towards the kitchen however the other side of the restaurant you can’t manoeuvre round in a wheelchair very well at all. We did struggle to get into our table, seating felt quite squashed as its booth type seating on one side -

"There was just not a lot of room in general especially for us in wheelchairs"

The venue wasn’t busy just a few people inside and it look very clean.

There was no music on in the background, no atmosphere and it was quite cold once we were sat at our table. There was no changing places in the restaurant but there is an accessible toilet.

Unfortunately there was furniture blocking the toilet entrance , high chairs, a table etc which our support staff had to move so we could access the toilet.

The accessible toilet was small, very cold and the toilet was leaking so one of our support staff did complain as the floor was wet to which the restaurant weren’t that bothered as it doesn’t really get used.

A member of staff come to our table to take our food and drinks order. The waiter didn’t really acknowledge us and spoke more to our support staff.

We found unfortunately that the staff were not very friendly. We felt like the staff didn’t know what they were doing -

“Like they hadn’t meet people with disabilities before”.

We were not asked about any allergy or dietary needs and when our support staff explained that one of us does have dietary needs the staff refused to accommodate.

We asked if one of us could swap the chips that came with a meal for a plain single wrap due to dietary needs. Everything was initially ok until we needed supplements to one meal.

The waiter went back and forward to the chef who repeatedly said no to any supplements.

So one of our support staff went to speak directly to chef to explain the dietary needs and finally got a supplement with an additional cost.

One of us ordered a pasta dish and when asked if we would like cheese the waiter said it would be an additional £1.00 for the cheese.

Although the service wasn’t the best we all agreed that the food was really nice and portion size was really good.

The bar was high and due to the lack of space our support staff had to pay for us , cash and card payments were accepted however, it was a struggle to pay separately , even though we did inform our waiter we would all be paying separately when our food order was being taken.

We didn’t feel rushed to leave however, due to our experience, we felt uncomfortable and left as soon as we finished our meal.

Overall, we rate Manjaros Restaurant -

*Access - 2/10
*Service - 1/10

Tuesday Community Day! 💚

Our client here at LANE enjoyed a fantastic day out at the Metrocentre, where he took on the challenge of Clip ’n Climb. With encouragement and support from staff, he explored the climbing activities and embraced a brand new adventure.

This month it’s Thrive Fest! 🎤

The lads have been hard at work every Thursday, putting their set together and developing their sound as a band. Alongside practising a selection of songs they’ve worked on together, they’ll also be performing an original song they’ve written themselves.

With vocals, drums and guitar coming together, they’re excited to take to the stage and share what they’ve been creating, with the help and support of the staff at LANE and the team at Meadows Community Centre.

We can’t wait to see them perform at Thrive Fest next week! 💚

A huge well done to one of our clients on his very first visit to the gym at The Parks Sports Centre

He attended alongside some of our other clients, making it a great session full of encouragement, support and achievement. While everyone trained together, each client followed their own personalised gym plan, designed around their individual needs, goals, abilities and fitness levels. This ensures that everyone can progress at their own pace while building confidence and improving their health and wellbeing.

Today was all about trying something new, and he absolutely smashed it. From learning how to use different machines to building confidence in a completely new environment, he embraced every challenge with a positive attitude and gave it his all. 👏

Introducing new experiences like this is an important part of his weekly plan, helping to develop independence, confidence, physical health and wellbeing. It was fantastic to see him step out of his comfort zone and achieve so much in just one session.

At Lifelong Ability North East, we’re passionate about creating opportunities for people to learn new skills, stay active and enjoy experiences that help them reach their full potential. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what comes next!

Rebound therapy is a fantastic activity for many of our clients at Lifelong Ability North East 💚

Each week, our clients attend sessions at The Parks Sport Centre where they take part in rebound therapy in a safe, fun and supportive environment.

Rebound therapy helps improve balance, coordination, muscle strength and confidence — all while having fun on the trampolines.

Every client has their own individual rebound therapy plan, meaning each session is tailored to their personal needs, abilities, and goals. This allows everyone to take part in a way that is comfortable, enjoyable and beneficial for them.

For many of the people we support, it’s not just about physical benefits. These weekly sessions can also boost mood, encourage communication, reduce anxiety and provide an enjoyable way to stay active and social.

Seeing the smiles, laughter, and achievements during every session reminds us how important accessible activities like rebound therapy are for health, wellbeing, and independence.

We are proud to provide opportunities that help our clients build confidence, stay active, and enjoy new experiences every week 💚
