We have been experiencing a high number of calls following the heavy rain in Devon and Somerset earlier today, with more rain expected to sweep across the area this evening.

Water levels are likely to keep rising, with roads becoming flooded. Please do not drive through floodwater, especially where warning signs have been put in place.

Just 30cm of flowing water can make a vehicle stuck or even sweep it away.

We're holding an open day at our headquarters near Exeter on Saturday 1 September.

There will be lots of emergency services vehicles with demonstrations throughout the day.

We will also be fundraising with lots of fun and games including a coconut shy, adults and children's tombola , skittles, bouncy castle, splat the rat, face painting, tin can alley, raffle, BBQ, refreshments and much more...

Don’t forget to get the firefighters wet in the stocks!

We all have someone we care about who may need a little extra support if they have ill health or are less mobile.

Just to make you aware

We’ve had a message from a local business / Public House who have had multiple calls from someone asking for money to go towards a Tavistock Fire Station magazine

This is a hoax / scam and does not exist at least not for our station

It’s a difficult time for all businesses at the moment and we wouldn’t want any of you to succumb to this under our name or any other Devon and Somerset Fire Stations

Please be aware that the fire service does not recover vehicles that have been driven into floodwater where the occupants are able to exit the vehicle safely. Of course, where people are at risk, always ring 999

Today is 'Time to talk' day and Digby our lovely therapy dog 🐶 helps our firefighters to start chatting after they have experienced a traumatic incident. We call this defusing which helps to protect our firefighters from harm by reducing the risk of post-traumatic stress disorder. Choosing to talk about mental health can change, and even save lives. Time to talk day is a good opportunity to start. 😊
