We are kicking off this week's with a cartoon from our sports collection!⚽️

This cartoon from our archive, drawn by T.H.M Mitchell, depicts a football match between Uxbridge Town and Walthamstow Avenue on September 28, 1935. Losing 6-1 to Walthamstow, the artist suggests that perhaps 'The Reds' might have won if Frank Price had stuck to his routine instead of smoking ci******es.

Do you know a young sports fanatic? This summer, you can design your own sports kit with us at Hillingdon Museum (next to Uxbridge Library).

❔️From 11am - 3pm, every Wednesday in August. Drop in - no booking required.

NEW SPEAKER🗣️

Join us at Hillingdon Museum and Archives, as John Whitby talks about the Colne Valley Regional Park and its challenges and opportunities. He will talk about the campaign 'A Corridor For Life' set against a backdrop of changing agricultural policy, with insights into what it means to be a farmer today.

John is immediate past Chairman of Trustees of the Colne Valley Regional Park and has been volunteering at the Colne Valley Regional Park for more than 15 years. Born and bred in South Bucks, and as a second-generation farmer, he is an unashamed champion of, and advocate for, the countryside and the place of agriculture within it.

Did you know that in the medieval period, a Priory likely existed on the site of the current Manor Farm House?

Although we don’t know what this structure would have looked like, archaeological evidence has shown that a priory cell has existed on the site since the 12th century. Priory cells were small residences with only one or two monks living there at a time. Inside the cell, there would be living quarters, a kitchen to prepare their meals, and a small chapel for prayer and reflection. The monks living there would split their time between praying, reading, writing, and tending to their fields.

It's !

This image from our archive shows the exterior of Southlands. The house, off The Green in West Drayton, served as a residence and farmhouse for several centuries, with origins dating back to the Tudor period. In December 1964, Yiewsley and West Drayton Urban District Council agreed to lease Southlands as an arts centre.

Did you know you can still visit Southlands today? Visit their website or check out their page Southlands Arts to see the full list of upcoming events.
