Take a step back in time and stay in our beautiful cabins, just a stones throw from Usk Castle ruins. Usk Castle has been in the Humphreys family for over 100 years and is a enchanting and unique place. Usk itself is a lovely town to visit, and has a great local community with lots of small businesses. Tom decided to set up Castle Knights in 2012, to share a corner of his family home with families

, couples and anyone with an appreciation for history and a love of the outdoors. The site has a cosy woodland atmosphere and is well equipped with a purpose built toilet block and extensive kitchen facilities. In recent years he has discovered Bob the Yurt who lovingly crafted some of our first cabins on site- the beautiful Shepherds Cabin, Yurt and Dragonette which are truly unique and thoroughly Welsh! Latest additions include the Nook and the Lodge in 2021. The site has hosted several family parties and group events- the best bit is seeing people enjoy the place we love. Spring has sprung and we are starting to prep for the new season. It seems a shame to mow when the campsite is so yellow with selendines! However the primroses around the VE Day memorial get to stay- so pretty.

And that’s a wrap for 2024! Thanks to all who have supported our little site this year, we have really enjoyed hosting your stays be it family gatherings and reunions with friends. As the leaves turn the yurt is packed down, the grass has had its last mow (though we might get the sheep in to help over winter!) and, as always, we will be making improvements and additions for next year.

We love groups! A glorious weekend was spent around the campfire with old friends reuniting and children playing. This group exclusively hired the site and stayed in our gorgeous glamping cabins for a reunion. The ruins were explored, was visited, coffee was enjoyed from and , provided takeaway pizza and all enjoyed the walk along the station path to the playground.

Castle Knights is back open for 2024 🙌 Wet weather has held up our planned maintenance, but our fire pits are newly surrounded by eucalyptus chippings and our well equipped kitchen repainted with extra fridge and freezer space this year.
We are lucky to be peacefully tucked away next to castle walls but a very short walk from beautiful town with numerous shops, a fab choice of eateries, pubs and beauty salons if you need last minute beautification before a wedding day. So please support our lovely town during your stay.

Our Story

Tom Humphreys grew up in Usk Castle and had a wonderful childhood exploring the ruins, listening to tales of knights and battles and re-enacting these with his brother and sister. Usk Castle has been in the Humphreys family for over 100 years and is a pretty unique and magical place. Usk itself is a lovely town to visit, with plenty to do locally just a short walk from your accommodation, despite the sites secluded and rural setting. Tom decided to set up Castle Knights in 2012, as a result of his love of the outdoors and also wanting to share his experience with families, couples and anyone who enjoys simply being in the great outdoors and has an appreciation for history. The site has a cosy woodland atmosphere and is well equipped with a purpose built toilet block and fort designed and built by Tom himself. In recent years he has looked for more unique ways of living outdoors and discovered a great couple in mid Wales who live off grid and lovingly crafted the beautiful shepherds hut which you see first on arrival into the campsite, and more recently a hand painted yurt with an intricately carved entrance door. The site has hosted several family gatherings and group events- we are happy to help arrange local activities and entertainment- the best bit is seeing people enjoy the place we love.
