⭐️Volunteers’ Week ⭐

As serving members of the UK Armed Forces, these volunteers dedicate their spare time to supporting EEAST and the communities we serve. Drawing on military training, operational experience and a commitment to public service, they provide an additional emergency response capability.

Often arriving before other resources, Military Co-Responders deliver immediate patient care when it matters the most.

The resilience, leadership and rapid decision-making developed through military service translate seamlessly into the pre-hospital environment, helping to improve patient outcomes and support the wider emergency services response.

This Volunteers’ Week, we thank every member of the Military Response Team for their dedication, professionalism and continued commitment to serving both their country and their community ⚕️

The recent death of a British soldier in Northern Iraq serves as a sobering reminder of the sacrifices made by those who wear the uniform and commit themselves to serving others.

As Military Co-Responders, we work alongside serving personnel, veterans and emergency services colleagues daily who understand that service is more than a job. It’s a commitment to stand up when others need support most. While the circumstances and environments may differ, there is a common thread that runs through all forms of service: exposure to risk, trauma, loss and the realities that many will never witness or experience.

Every call, every welfare concern, every crisis intervention and every deployment carries an unseen weight. Behind every uniform is a person who has chosen to put duty before themselves and often at significant personal cost.

So as a team, we pause to remember a British soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
We honour their sacrifice and extend our deepest condolences to their family, friend and Regiment.

May we never lose sight of the courage, dedication and selflessness shown by our Armed Forces personnel every day.

Lest We Forget. Til Valhalla. 🇬🇧

It is with deep regret that we can confirm that a training accident occurred in northern Iraq on Sunday 31 May 2026 in which a service person from the British Army died.

MISSION UPDATE:

Being a Military Co-Responder means maintaining competence across two demanding roles.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and Continuing Clinical Exposure (CCE) are essential to ensuring we deliver the highest standard of care, whether that’s deployed on Operations or working within the Regions community’s on behalf of the Trust.

Maintaining CPD means regularly undertaking clinical training, attending mandatory updates, participating in exercises and completing reflective practice while staying up to date with the current evidence based practices within out Scope.

Maintaining CCE through frontline operational shifts allows us to keep our assessment, decision-making and patient care skills sharp in real world dynamic environments.

The unique dual role nature of military co-responders provides a valuable opportunity to bring knowledge and experience from both military and civilian healthcare settings. Therefore strengthening interoperability and enhancing patient outcomes. By continuously learning and exposing ourselves to a broad range of clinical presentations, we remain ready to respond effectively whenever and wherever we’re needed.

MISSION UPDATE:

The team continues to provide operational support alongside frontline East of England Ambulance Service crews across the region.

Personnel remain integrated within frontline operations attending and supporting a broad range of incidents from low acuity calls to time critical medical emergencies.

The Joint working between Military Co-Responders and EEAST staff has continued to demonstrate strong interoperability, professionalism, and adaptability in dynamic operational environments.

Feedback from frontline crews and operational management remains positive, with the co-response model continuing to deliver critical support across the region enhancing frontline response and resilience.

Last night the team attended 4 Allocations. 1800-0200 Shift.

Job 1: Query upper limb fracture

Collaborative response crew were first crew on scene carrying out the initial assessment and being able to provide pain relief until handing over to the DSA crew who conveyed to ED.

Job 2: HOT 1 Backup for Pt in Peri arrest. Extrication Required.

Crew attended a DSA requested for extrication for a Pt in peri arrest. Crew assisted with a difficult extrication before Pre-Alerting the Pt to Resus. Co-Response Crew assisted with in-transit care.

JOB 3: Reported as Cardiac arrest

Crew attended what was reported as a cardiac arrest. On arrival a CMS crew were already on scene and confirmed it was a negative arrest. PT was however FAST positive and pre alerted to ED.

JOB 4: Cardiac arrest (CPR in progress)

Crew were allocated to a Cardiac arrest with bystander CPR in progress.
Crew traveled in convoy with the Tri-force APU ARV which was alerted via good sam. OA a DSA had just arrived on scene. The crews worked simultaneously on scene achieving ROSC and MAGPAS carried out a pre-hospital RSI.

An intresting point to highlight was that 50% of the crews on scene were serving or veterans. The MAGPAS Dr on scene is currently serving in the same squadron as one of the Co-Responders on scene. This not only creates smooth joint working but again highlights the input the military have on pre-hospital emergency care at all levels. ⚕️
