The Lib Dem-controlled Stratford on District Council has passed a budget that invests in communities and protects services for people across the district.
Here’s what it means:
🏠 £1m for more affordable housing to rent
💡 Support to help residents with Cost of Living needs
🇬🇧 Improved access to services for veterans and their families.
🤾🏻♀️A project for improved youth work
🏊 Continued support for leisure facilities
🚗 Support for the VASA Volunteer Driver Scheme
🏗️ Support for Parish Council Neighbourhood Development Plans
📹 Continued investment in CCTV to keep our communities safe and tackle ASB. Support for Rural Crime Advisers
🌿 Solar panels to reduce energy costs for leisure centres and provide EV charge points
🌳Support for community nature and energy efficiency initiatives
- And all for a Council Tax that is one of the lowest in the country
Meanwhile, the Conservatives' alternative was rejected by the council's own finance team as unrealistic.
This is what competent, community-focused local government looks like: refusing to play fast and loose with fantasy finances and committed to delivering for residents.
