We are very proud to announce that we have received the Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award! This follows on from our signing the Armed Forces Covenant in November 2023 and being awarded Bronze in October 2024.

Full Council met last night, Tuesday 9 June and discussed the following:

✅ Appointment of a new Responsible Financial Officer (RFO), who oversees the council's financial management and governance.

✅ A third consecutive clean Internal Audit, reflecting strong financial controls and good governance.

✅ Approval of eco-friendly replacement windows for the Bus Station Building to improve energy efficiency.

Our eagle-eyed followers may have already spotted them! Some new planters have appeared around the town centre, and here are just three of them.

The hanging baskets are looking fantastic now, just look at how much the ones at the Market House have grown! We’re excited to see these new planters fill out and burst into colour, with flowers cascading over the edges in the weeks ahead.

🌞 Mayoral Monday – Introducing the Mayor’s Charity 2026/27 🌞

It was a wonderful start to the weekend as the Mayor of Taunton, Councillor Bev Fernandes, attended the Summer Fayre at Taunton Opportunity Group (TOG) — her chosen Mayoral charity for 2026/27.

TOG is a long-established local preschool and registered charity supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities before statutory school age. From preschool sessions and a multi-sensory room to a welcoming weekly stay-and-play group, they provide a safe, enriching environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.

Speaking about her chosen charity, the Mayor said: “I am absolutely delighted that Taunton Opportunity Group will be my Mayoral charity for the year ahead. Their work supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities before school age is vital, and I am excited to work alongside them to help raise awareness and support for what they do.”

We look forward to a fantastic year of partnership, helping shine a light on the incredible work TOG delivers for local families. 💛
