Deputy Lieutenant Frances McKay attended the regular meeting of the volunteer members of the Banff Castle Community Centre - Banffshire Association. The occasion was the generous donation by Val Harrison to the Castle of a defibrillator. The generosity of many such people, makes a difference to what can be achieved in our communities as well as to the safety and well being of all. Over the last few years the association have realised the vision of making the Castle and Ground an exciting venue for a wide range of community events and activities. These have benefitted many local groups and the wider community. Thank you to all the volunteers who help look after premises that are brilliant resources and which add so much to what can happen.

The cadet forces offer young people a range of important life experiences that contribute significantly to their personal development. In there are army cadet units in Banff, Buckie, Keith and Portsoy. It was a pleasure to spend an evening hearing from the young people how much they value the skills and companionship they are gaining. Like all youth organisations, the volunteer leaders are key to the success. It was a pleasure to meet both local leaders and others from across the area and to present a certificate of meritorious service to WO2 Malcolm McRae in recognition of his many years service - exemplifying the commitment, hard work and dedication of all adult volunteers working with young people. This was also the occasion when Cadet Sergeant Eden Allan received her Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet certificate and badge. Well done to all and thank you.

Deputy Lieutenant Tricia Lawson was delighted to be with the Glenlivet Public Hall Committee members as they organised their Centenary Celebration to be held at the Hall on the 20th June from 4.00 - 7.00 pm. Community halls are an important feature of life in the rural areas. They provide a location for activities and a focal point for the community. Well done to those who volunteer to keep these halls open and in such good condition. I am looking forward to being in Glenlivet for in August!

Thank you to the volunteers in many communities throughout who help create floral displays that make our towns and villages so much more attractive and welcoming to local people and to visitors. Even in this morning's rain, the Banff and Macduff In Bloom volunteers were busy planting out the Teddy Bear's Picnic display that will welcome people to Banff. Thank you for all you do in fundraising and planting as well as then looking after the displays, hanging baskets and planters throughout the summer. You make a difference! Look out for their page about opportunities to join them.

Deputy Lieutenant Dr John Harrington was delighted to attend another bumper weekend at Netherton Farm, Keith for the 17th annual Trish and Harold’s afternoon teas! In the region of 700 people attended on the Saturday or Sunday. Over those 17 years £132,000 has been raised for Breast Cancer charities and £19,000 for Roxburghe House in Aberdeen. This year, they decorated and kitted out one of the farm buildings to make a beautiful, spacious area where even more people could be served their delicious afternoon tea. Trish and Harold now have a sizeable, skilled team of volunteers to help them in this venture. A very well done to them all particularly at the beginning of Volunteers' Week We look forward to hearing of another staggering fund raising total! Thank you to all volunteers raising funds for good causes and to those who gave generously.

A wonderful afternoon admiring the fantastic plants in the Open Garden at Inveraven House. Lots of ideas and inspiration. Well done to Ken and Tricia for all your hard work and the warm welcome. The tea and cake were delicious along with the chat. The event was a fundraiser for the Friends of Inveravon Church and their plans for the future of the church.
