The scale of money being lost from frontline services due to damages is staggering. Our frontline staff are under immense pressure, so it's important for the Health Minister and Trusts to work constructively to implement measures to reduce these costs and protect patients.

Pleased to have received confirmation from the Justice Minister that it's unlikely any further attempts will be made to increase fi****ms licensing fees in the remainder of this mandate.

This follows a U-turn by the Minister after a sustained campaign by fi****ms owners and lobby groups. Well done to everyone who raised this issue with me and the Department.

I have received deeply concerning statistics from the Department of Health on the number of assaults on patient-facing staff in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.

The sheer number of assaults in the last five years is frightening and puts into sharp focus the incredible work carried out by healthcare workers. However, make no mistake, fear of physical violence should never be considered as an occupational hazard.

I will engage with the Trust to support any additional measures which could help protect staff and drive down these numbers.

Delighted to see that my colleague Communities Minister Gordon Lyons, has launched the first ever dedicated Government support line in Northern Ireland for armed forces veterans.

The Department for Communitiesโ€™ Veterans Support Line NI service will provide information on benefits eligibility and other support services to veterans, serving personnel and their families.

Having raised the issue with the Minister recently, I am glad that it is now operational. We have a proud military history in our local area and I would encourage anyone eligible to avail of this support.

This scheme offers grants of up to ยฃ2,500 to support small capital projects that will benefit our rural communities across Newry & Armagh.
