Whitland Town Council would like to update residents following ongoing discussions with Natural Resources Wales after the recent flooding.

We are pleased to confirm that Natural Resources Wales have agreed to carry out flood prevention works on the River Taf. These works are currently scheduled to begin in August this year, and no later than September.

At present, Natural Resources Wales are awaiting the necessary official consent forms before work can commence.

We will continue to keep the community informed as further updates become available.

Whitland Town Council would like to update residents regarding recent changes to ground maintenance within the town.

Following a review of our ground maintenance contract, it has come to our attention that some of the areas previously maintained by Whitland Town Council are not actually owned by the Town Council. These include sections of land owned by Carmarthenshire County Council, as well as some privately owned housing estates.

As a result, residents may have noticed that certain areas which were previously cut have not been maintained recently. After careful consideration, Whitland Town Council has made the decision to cease maintenance of land that is owned by Carmarthenshire County Council and a private housing estates.

This decision has also been made in order to ensure that the Town Council continues to manage its budget responsibly. The Council has chosen to keep the precept the same this year to help support residents during ongoing cost of living pressures, and therefore must prioritise spending on land and services it is responsible for.

We have been in contact with Carmarthenshire County Council regarding this matter, and they have confirmed that they will begin maintaining these areas from June onwards, unless there are any urgent health and safety concerns that require earlier attention.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this transition.

Ysgol Llys Hywel recently opened during the holidays to carry out a tidy-up of the school, welcoming volunteers from the local community to get involved.

It was great to see people coming together to lend a hand, including a few Whitland Town Council members who were glad to help out.

A big thank you to everyone involved — it was a real team effort. Some of our members will also be returning to support again in the future.

It’s always positive to see the community working together.

Whitland Town Council can confirm that, unfortunately, the Hub will be closing permanently today.

This situation was beyond the control of the staff working there. The Town Council did attempt to prevent this outcome by contacting the Post Office and raising concerns when the new Post Office provider was appointed; however, the process had already been completed at that stage.

We understand this will be disappointing news for the community, and we share those concerns. We will keep you informed of any future developments regarding what will be happening at the premises.
