Construction has now started on Halifax’s new leisure centre.

Preparation works over recent months have included site surveys and partial demolition of the former North Bridge Leisure Centre. Contractor Tilbury Douglas has now begun the main build phase, with a large piling rig on site to create the building’s foundations.

The new facility will include:
• a 120-station fitness suite, multi-use studios and a spinning studio,
• an eight-court sports hall,
• a 25m six-lane swimming pool with spectator seating, plus a learner pool,
• a Changing Places facility,
• wellbeing spaces,
• a soft play and an adventure area for children, and
• a café and community area.

Reminder : Travel updates for Halifax

**Please take the diversion and use the A629 route. **

Construction has moved to the bottom of town. You can still to get to shops, businesses and attractions, but your route might be a little different.

Please plan ahead and allow more time for journeys in and out of Halifax. Walking and wheeling routes will be open. Your usual bus stop may be affected.

Travel updates for Halifax (starting in April 2026)

Construction will move to the bottom of town. You will be able to get to shops, businesses and attractions, but your route might be a little different.

**Starting April – take the diversion and use the A629 route. **
