Wow, that was some rain 🌧️ obviously there is a lot of flooding this morning and some roads are impassable. Here's an update from the Police.

Obviously we are heading into a major storm. Almost anything could happen overnight. The most likely scenario is a lot of wind and rain. The wind could get to damaging speeds. It is also just possible there may be a spell of heavy sleet or even snow. Travel tonight is best avoided, do not try to go to Plymouth or beyond, where the wind warning is red. Stay safe, everyone.

As yesterday morning it has frozen hard overnight, leading to black ice with a dusting of snow. Do not drive unless you have to and take special care on untreated minor roads. Pavements and walkways are likely to be extremely hazardous.

A light dusting of snow this morning. Remember this is on top of frozen ground and black ice. Take care if you need to drive please.

It has been extraordinarily icy today on the roads. The warden has been out and responded to every request we could cover. It is likely to be as bad, if not worse, overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. Please do not drive unless absolutely necessary and if you have to, take it slowly and carefully. We have seen people today driving too fast for the conditions, and take special care when going from gritted main roads onto untreated minor roads. Also, please if you use the grit bins, use the salt/grit sparingly. It does not take too much to unfreeze the surface, if the bins are emptied there is nothing to use when the surface refreezes.

03/01/2026

Yesterday morning the Warden dropped a bag of grit/salt at the bottom of Seven Crosses Hill because the new road surface was very slippery. It would have been in place for this morning, but someone took it! Now we have to deliver another. If you see anyone removing bags of salt/grit by the roadway, can you please challenge them and remind them it is there for public roadways.

03/01/2026

There is a lot of black ice around this morning. Please use the salt/grit bins where needed. The warden will try to deliver some where required but take care. Do not use your car unless absolutely necessary.

Happy New Year! It was a bit icy first thing this morning, and there is a weather warning in place for ice and snow overnight and into tomorrow. We are right on the edge of it, but please be aware. https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings #?date=2026-01-02&id=208b0424-59df-4dd3-bc12-e1d03c744573

As predicted, storm Claudia is likely to dump a lot of rain overnight and through Friday into Saturday. There is a yellow weather warning in place, but we are uncomfortably close to the edge of the amber warning area.

So far this year Autumn has proved to be quiet. Mild and whilst wet, not torrential and not really big storms, at least so far. However, it looks as if rain is due to be heavier and temperatures lower over the next week. Most leaves are now down, so we could see blocked grates to drains and culverts. Please keep an eye out and report problems here.

There are a number of warnings in place between now and Monday for potential thunderstorms. These could cause rapid changes in river levels and localised flooding and problems. We may be lucky and escape any issues, but it's best to be prepared. We will update on here when we can.
