Leave politics out of this one.

Operation Vanguard has responded to 172 incidents in the last month.

That’s 172 incidents that would otherwise have been missed.

That shows me that residents in the 3 areas of Braintree, Chelmsford and Colchester, had every right to feel unsafe.

And yet, political & public opponents are so desperate for this ‘Reform initiative’ to fail, that some would almost rather compromise safety, on the altar of Reform ‘being embarrassed’.

Let’s make no mistake. If this initiative fails, we all fail. Everyone should WANT this to succeed.

Anyone that would rather this scheme fails, just to prove that their opposition was right, frankly has no principles, decency & has their priorities all wrong.

Similarly, anyone who tries to de-legitimise this exercise on the back of ‘no evidence involving asylum-seekers’, would rather score political points than applaud a job well done. It shows who they are and what their priorities are.

Yes this was put in place initially due to those concerns, however the operatives are there to respond to all crime. Do you honestly think that the operatives will ignore one blatant crime taking place nearby while they run towards another due to discrimination? Get real.

Yet the best the opponents of the scheme can do is say ‘there’s no evidence it was asylum-seekers’.

To me, a crime is a crime, regardless of who does it. And if 172 crimes have been intervened in, that fully justifies the presence of the security.

Let’s be thankful that these were picked up on 🙏

I’m also genuinely intrigued in this one - given that they would be fleeing war, how many Russian & Iranian citizens have come to our shores in the last 12 months?

EMPTY DWELLING MANAGEMENT ORDER (EDMO)

I could not be any more against the Government proposals to reduce the period from 2 years to 6 months.

It is a Government enablement to a Local Council power & property grab!

Once you buy a property, it’s yours. You own it. As long as that property is not causing a public nuisance to others, it is YOUR business what happens with the property. Nobody else’s & certainly not the Government & a Local Council.

There can also be any number of legitimate reasons why a property may be empty for 6 months. It is not for any outside body to come & decide they are taking over management without an owner’s consent.

Imagine the scenario. The Local Council can decide & manage WHO lives in YOUR property WITHOUT your consent - after 6 months.

At the moment, a letter is sent to the owner with 3 months notice. There is no guarantee that even that will continue to be a pre-requirement to an order being granted.

Yes there is a housing shortage. This is exacerbated by a growing population & the building of housing stock not keeping up with it.

But forcibly using some of the empty 300,000 housing stock - in a property grab against the owners will - is NOT the way to solve it. It is not the responsibility of property owners to address a housing shortage that the Government’s policies have caused.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!

And the brainchild of this Labour Government. I do not want to see this in Castle Point.

A MESSAGE TO THOSE WITH GCSE RESULTS - And Parents

Today does not define you. Today does not dictate the rest of your life. It’s what you do AFTER today that counts.

Today proves your ability to study well & digest information. It also demonstrates your work ethic at an early age. But I promise you that 90% of that curriculum will not be useful in everyday life!

If you get or exceed the expectations you have, then be proud. You’ve worked hard & you deserve all the plaudits coming your way. If not, then your life is not over! Concentrate on something specialist that YOU want to do, and become the best you can be.

Absolutely NOTHING of what I have gone on to do in life (Sales, Event Host & Councillor) required a single GCSE. My partner yesterday unfortunately witnessed a road accident, and had to administer CPR at the scene.

Saving lives, building a house, wiring a building, operating a crane, plumbing….none of that is decided by school. Being a ‘people’ person, able to build relationships - that is far more important than grades.

My son collects his results from Sweyne today. And regardless of what grade it says on the paper, I am deeply proud of the young man he has become 🩵
