Fire calls📟🔔 - Yesterday 13:57 Grassington were mobilised along with Skipton Fire Station, Ripon fire station and a West Yorkshire appliance to Bolton Abbey to a person and a dog stuck on the far side of the river bank with no means of escape, crews worked to bring the person and 🐕 back safely with the aid of a water rescue boat.
( Excitingly this was one of FF Rymers first 'shouts') 👨‍🚒👨‍🚒

Today 17:19 Grassington along with Ripon Fire Station were mobilised to reports of a fire to a fuse board near Lofthouse. On arrival the occupier had extinguished the fire and crews carried out further internal and external investigation and requested attendance of nothern power grid. Crews stood by and monitored conditions before returning back to home station. 🚒👨‍🚒

🔋️Don’t let your old batteries go up in smoke.

Never throw loose batteries or electricals containing hidden batteries in the bin or
with your household recycling. Otherwise they can get crushed in bin lorries and at recycling centres, and spark serious and dangerous fires.

🔥Research in 2024 by found that there were over 1,200 battery fires across the UK in one year alone and the problem is getting worse.

💨These fires are endangering lives, having a significant impact on local communities and causing air pollution spikes.

Don’t let your battery cause the next fire.

💡 Always recycle batteries and electricals separately from your household rubbish and recycling at a designated drop-off point.

➡️ Don’t bin electricals or loose batteries.
➡️ Recycle them properly.
➡️ Protect your community.

We’ve had reports of young people playing on frozen ponds. It might look fun, but it’s extremely dangerous. Please do not go onto ice-covered lakes, ponds, or rivers – it’s not safe!
Ice can appear thick near the edge but gets thinner toward the middle.
Falling into icy water can cause hypothermia very quickly, making it hard to get out.
If a dog or animal falls through, do not go after them – if the ice didn’t hold them, it won’t hold you. Call 999 for help.

Top Safety Tips:
• Never venture onto frozen water – it can crack without warning
• Adults: set a good example by staying off the ice
• Don’t throw sticks or balls onto the ice for dogs
• If you see someone in trouble, call 999 immediately
• If you can help safely, use a rope, branch, or clothing – but stay clear of the water

Last nights drill marked 20 years to the day since our Watch Manager,James Hastings, joined North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service Grassington, as an on-call firefighter. After some rough maths in that time we worked out that James has given over 100,000 hours to help keep our fire engine available for emergency calls. Which is quite staggering to say the least.
James’ passion and commitment to serving our community over the years has seen him rise to the pinnacle the on-call has to offer, and reach Watch Manager of the station (The boss).
James continues to lead our station forward as we grow as a crew into the coming new year, with the addition of 2 new firefighters. We’re delighted to have James lead us into 2026, and, in words of the sport he loves.. 20 years not out! 🏏
