In a ground-breaking move for local football, every resident in Thornaby-On-Tees is being offered a fully funded season ticket to watch over 40 Thornaby FC men and women's home league games for the 2026/27 season.

Thanks to an unprecedented partnership between Thornaby FC and Thornaby Town Council, this is believed to be the first time funded football season tickets have been made available at this scale.

With over 10,000 households and approximately 24,000 people eligible, the scheme marks the largest single community initiative in the football club's history.

Eligible residents must act quickly to secure their funded season tickets before the summer deadline of July 31st.

To qualify, you must reside in a household paying the Thornaby Town Parish Council precept and, importantly, tickets can be claimed for each individual member of that household.

For those living outside the eligible boundary, Thornaby FC will be announcing its paid season ticket and matchday admission prices tomorrow.

Residents should complete the online claim form and then bring proof of their council tax to the club upon collection.

Preserving a Piece of Thornaby’s History ✈️

From 24th June, restoration and maintenance works will begin on Thornaby’s iconic Spitfire replica as part of ongoing efforts to preserve this important tribute to the town’s RAF heritage.

The Spitfire was a bold initiative by Thornaby Town Council, funded and installed as a gateway feature on land once forming part of RAF Thornaby. The aircraft was officially unveiled by then Mayor of Thornaby, Councillor Pat Large, and stands as a lasting tribute to all who served at RAF Thornaby during WWII and in peacetime defending the UK. 🇬🇧

With 2026 marking 90 years since the creation of the Spitfire aircraft, these restoration works will help ensure the memorial remains a proud landmark for future generations.

Plans for the restoration have been in progress for some time, with highway and traffic management considerations carefully addressed. Works are now scheduled to take place during the summer period alongside the creation of new cycle lanes.

Recycling Update
THIS IS FROM the Director of Services which Councillors received

Today has been another extremely challenging day with a huge amount of recycling presented. The crews have worked tirelessly although this is the first week of the new service and this was always going to be the most difficult as they are not only dealing with operational challenges but there is essentially 2 week's worth of recycling to pick up this is week.

There is the welcome problem of pockets on the borough who either never or rarely recycled that are actively recycling this week and placing out large amounts, which is compounding the week 1 problems.

SBC has again ran out of time today despite putting every possible resource in the form of vehicles and personnel, and left with approximately 2500 incomplete collections as follows:
• Village
• Mandale and Victoria
• Stainsby Hill
• Ingleby Barwick South
• Ingleby Barwick North
• Southern Villages

The plan is to work Saturday to mop up anything that we missed yesterday (5900 properties) and those from today.
