Join us tomorrow at the This is Tewkesbury event at Tewkesbury Abbey between 11am and 4pm. Sarah and Beth will be outside in the Abbey grounds (excellent weather has been ordered) to make seed bombs, explore the cabinet of curiosities, and find a trail clue. There are lots of organisations taking part and plenty for all ages. Pop along for a chat and find out what's new on the nature reserve and in the community.

Following the vandalism on the reserve a couple of weeks ago, we gratefully accepted the help of Minchew Fencing and Groundwork's team who joined Giles on the reserve and helped fix the broken fences. Thank you for reaching out Neal and bringing the team along. We really appreciate your support and the cows remain safe in their field.

As we come to the end of Volunteers' Week we just like to say a huge thank you to our lovely and hard-working Volunteer team that look after the reserve. From pulling the invasive Himalayan Balsam to clearing litter, mending fences, cutting reeds, and improving paths we couldn't do it without you! Thanks!

It's Volunteers Week and today we want to shout out to our community garden volunteers. Over the past year they have helped out in the local community, maintaining spaces used by others such as school gardens, the hospital grounds and spring gardens. However, since February, the Community Garden Group have been developing the space outside at the CCP Tewkesbury Community Hub and look at what a difference they have made! Today the first strawberry and first peas (just one pod) were harvested, with plenty more to come. To find out more about joining our community garden group, email Hannah on [email protected].

Can you guess what our Wildlife Protectors made this week? 🌸

A very popular summer drink, Elderflower Cordial, can be made with easily foraged elderflower blossoms, lemons and sugar.
Sustainable foraging is a wonderful way to feel connected to the seasons, helping us notice the plants that provide sustenance at different times of the year. Summer is the perfect time to pick elder flowers. Ensure that you correctly identify the plant, and only take what you need, leaving plenty for wildlife.

We will share a picture of the finished product when it's bottled.
Have you tried Elderflower Cordial before?

Whats your favourite foraged food or drink? 👀

Pollarding can seem drastic, when a large older tree is cut back. It's definitely a shock within the aesthetic of the landscape but is common practise when managing older willow trees. Although it can feel like the tree is never going to regrow, nature is amazing and it finds a way. Following a drastic hair cut back in the autumn, our willows are showing new signs of regrowth, including the burnt willow for which we are very grateful. Pollarded trees should remain healthy for years to come, and be home and host to many species of birds, bats and invertebrates as they fill out in the coming years.

On a lighter note, in celebration of World Otter Day, we hope you enjoy this amazing footage shared by visitor Tim Cash. Tim was lucky enough to see this young otter feeding earlier this month on an early morning walk and captured the moment on camera for us all to enjoy. Is anyone else currently wishing they were an otter, cooling down in the water?
