The funeral of former Mayor of Tadcaster Margaret Middlemiss will take place at St. Mary's Church, Tadcaster on Wednesday 28th January at 1:30pm, with refreshments provided at the Riley Smith Hall following the service. All who wish to attend are welcome.

Tadcaster Town Council is saddened to announce the passing this morning of former Cllr Margaret Middlemiss, who served on the council from 2003 until 2023, and was a four-time Mayor of Tadcaster from 2007-2010 and 2017-2018.

Margaret spent her career working as a prison governor, with her job taking her all around the country, before she eventually settled in Tadcaster. She was tirelessly devoted to the town, a keen supporter of and fundraiser for local and national charities, and all those who met her will doubtless remember her force of personality and drive to do whatever she could for the community. Her loss is deeply felt by all those connected to the council.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to all involved in this terrible tragedy, and their families. Please note that Tadcaster Grammar School will be closed tomorrow, and this section of Toulston Lane will remain closed while the police investigations take place, and the road is made safe.

The teenager was travelling in a minibus when it collided with a car in Toulston Lane, police say.

Thanks to everyone who came to today's Christmas Market! We hope to see you all (and hopefully even more besides) back next year! Our thanks also go out to the volunteers and staff who helped to organise and run the event, and of course all the stall holders.

Tadcaster Christmas Market is underway! Open until 3:30pm, with traders also in the Riley Smith Hall, and local businesses open for trading. Come and get yourselves a Christmas treat!
