Significant rainfall fell across the Wessex area overnight, with some locations recording over 50mm. This follows two weeks of prolonged heavy rainfall and a succession of three named Storms – Goretti, Ingrid and Chandra. River levels are high across Wessex, and the impacts are being felt widely. Several main roads have been flooded and are closed, and we have had some reports of property flooding. Please follow the attached Environment Agency advice.

Lydiard Tregoze Parish Council is deeply concerned by Wiltshire Council’s decision to close the Household Recycling Centres serving Purton and the surrounding communities.
Recent information provided by Hills Group, the site operator, raises serious questions about the financial justification being presented for these closures.
We are also concerned that the closures are proceeding before any confirmed alternative arrangements are in place, leaving residents — particularly those who rely on others for transport — facing significant difficulty in accessing essential recycling services.
The Parish Council believes residents deserve:
• Transparent and accurate information about costs
• Confirmed mitigation measures before any closure
• A clear timetable for replacement facilities
• Assurance that the needs of all residents have been properly considered
We strongly encourage parishioners to attend the Extraordinary Meeting of the Royal Wootton Bassett & Cricklade Area Board at 6pm on Tuesday 20 January at the Royal Wootton Bassett Memorial Hall to ensure community voices are heard.
This Parish Council will continue to work constructively with neighbouring parishes and Wiltshire Council to seek a fair, lawful and workable solution for our community.

We have received notification today of carriageway repair works programmed on C128 - B4696 Ballards Ash to Entrance of Flaxlands see below photo. These works involve asphalt patch repairs, adjustment of ironwork, reinstatement of road markings and associated maintenance works. The works will commence on Tuesday the 20th January 2026 and will be completed by Friday the 23rd January 2026 between the hours of 07:00 ands 19:00. Due to the nature of work and local environment, the works will be carried out within a temporary road closure, Road Markings and Ironwork adjustments may need to be completed at a later date.

Everyone in the located area within the site extents will receive a letter and advance signing will be erected.
