This Men’s Health Week, we’re encouraging people to start conversations, check in with the men in their lives and help reduce the stigma around mental health.

Local support is available all year round. If you or someone you know is struggling, there are local and national organisations that can help.

ManClub works to stop the stigma around men’s mental health by creating safe and informal spaces where men can talk openly. Holding a meeting every Monday at Melbourne Assembly Rooms 7-9pm. - https://orlo.uk/0qaCO

Fight Station Kickboxing - Swadlincote also holds regular free Men’s Release and Recharge events. Follow their social media channels to stay updated on future sessions.

South Derbyshire CVS offers a Mental Wellbeing Support Service to help people with day-to-day living and long-term mental wellbeing. They provide a weekly drop-in service, one-to-one appointments at home or at their premises in Swadlincote, and general support with things like appointments, letters and accessing other services. No professional referral is required and self-referrals are welcome. - https://orlo.uk/3UVPl

Derbyshire Mind runs regular groups, activities and support services across Derby and Derbyshire, including drop-in sessions and wellbeing activities. You can view what’s coming up on their activity calendar:https://orlo.uk/qs48O

You don’t have to wait until things reach crisis point. Talking, checking in, and knowing where support is available can make a real difference.

This week is Men’s Health Week.

It’s an opportunity to raise awareness of men’s health, encourage more open conversations and help reduce the stigma that can stop men from seeking support.

According to the Bupa Wellbeing Index, 50% of men have struggled with mental health difficulties at some point, yet fewer than half have sought medical advice.

That’s why it’s so important to check in, talk openly and support friends, colleagues and family members before things reach crisis point.

A simple conversation can make a real difference.

🚕 Many people associate licensing with taxis and private hire vehicles, but licensing services cover a much wider range of businesses. At South Derbyshire District Council, we licence everything from home boarders and kennels, pet shops, riding schools, pubs and clubs, gambling premises, tattoo studios, aesthetic treatment businesses, and scrap metal collectors.

✅ We work especially hard to support a thriving private hire trade that delivers a high-quality service to residents and visitors across the district. Through our licensing policies, we ensure that our operators, drivers and vehicles meet the professional standards expected of the trade, helping to keep passengers safe and maintain public confidence.

🟨 When using a licensed private hire vehicle, remember to look out for the square yellow South Derbyshire licence plate which shows the vehicle has been licensed by the Council.

📄 We'd also love to hear about your experience. Whether it's positive feedback or suggestions for improvement, your comments help us understand how our licensed fleet is performing and support continuous improvement across the trade.

🟡 Look for the yellow plate. Travel with confidence. Share your feedback.

🌙 The UK’s night-time economy is a cultural and economic powerhouse, and effective licensing plays a vital role in keeping it safe and thriving.

At South Derbyshire, our Licensing Enforcement team helps ensure the smooth running of major events such as Bloodstock, Bearded Theory and the Replika. 🎶

We work to ensure premises providing late-night refreshment and entertainment beyond 11pm are correctly licensed, and that businesses selling alcohol have the appropriate authorisations in place. 🍽️🍻

We also oversee Temporary Event Notices, helping venues host weddings, birthday celebrations and special events outside their usual licensing hours - supporting the occasions that bring our communities together. 🎉

🏡👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 It's National Licensing Week and today’s theme is Home and Family – a chance to highlight the many ways licensing affects everyday life in South Derbyshire.

The Licensing Team at South Derbyshire District Council helps ensure a wide range of activities and services are safe, fair and properly regulated. From licensed private hire vehicles taking children to school, to scrap metal collectors, animal boarding businesses, markets, raffles, festivals and the sale of alcohol, licensing plays an important role in community life.

Many people only think of alcohol or taxi licences, but licensing regulations support countless activities that residents and families rely on every day.
