🏮✨ HELP US LIGHT UP HOUGHTON FEAST! ✨🏮

We’re getting ready for the Houghton Feast Opening Ceremony on Friday 2nd October, we are planning a Lantern Parade through the park after the ceremony and we need your help to make it a spectacular celebration of light! 🌟

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Bring the family along to one of our FREE Lantern Making Workshops!

🎨 All the materials and supplies will be provided, so all you need to bring is your imagination!

Create your own lantern and bring it along to the Lantern Parade on Friday 2nd October. Walk together with your family and friends and help us create a beautiful trail of lights through Houghton Rectory Park.

Can't make the Lantern Parade? That's absolutely fine!

You can still come along to a workshop, make a lantern and donate it to the Houghton Feast team. Your lantern could then be given to someone else to carry during the parade, helping us make sure there are plenty of lights for everyone to enjoy.

✨ Everyone is welcome! ✨

You don't need to be part of the Houghton Feast Opening Ceremony or a member of a group to take part. Whether you're coming along with your children, grandchildren, friends or simply want to get creative and support your community, we'd love to see you.

Have your say on the Metro extension to Washington.

Today we have announced the latest proposals for the planned Metro extension to Washington. The proposals outline three new stations – located at Follingsby, Washington North and Washington South - as well as seeing the line cross the River Wear via the Victoria Viaduct, travel towards and under the A19, and connect with the current network at South Hylton.

The 13km Metro extension plays a critical role in North East Mayor Kim McGuinness’ vision to transform local transport and create an integrated network spanning the region.

Throughout September, we'll be holding a series of public engagement events where you can:

🚨 BIGGEST SMALL BUSINESS RESCUE PLAN IN A DECADE 🚨

Sunderland has just 𝟬.𝟰% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 yet around 𝟬.𝟵% 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀𝘆𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 are being accommodated here.

That means our share 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁.

This is not about attacking individuals. It is about asking a basic question of government:

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘆𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺?

Our city already faces enormous pressures on housing, public services and local communities. Decisions about dispersal are being made nationally, while places like Sunderland are left dealing with the consequences locally.
