Advanced notification of road closure: Lavenham Road, Great Waldingfield

Suffolk Highways are planning to carry out improvement works in your area.

What will we be doing?

Phase 1 - Road stud removal
Phase 2 - Surface dressing
Phase 3 - Road markings and road stud reinstatement

Where will we be doing it?

B1071 Sudbury Road, Lavenham – Part of from Melford Road, Lavenham to Lavenham Road, Great Waldingfield

What are the times and dates of the works?

Phase 1 – Tuesday 16 June to Wednesday 17 June, from 7pm to 5am

Phase 2 – Monday 20 July to Wednesday 22 July, from 4am to 9am

Phase 3 – Thursday 13 August to Tuesday August, from 7pm to 5am
*Please Note – Works will only take place on 1 of these days. The remaining days have been put in for a weather buffer. We will not be undertaking these works at the same time as any other road marking site*

What traffic management will be in place?
While we are working, a road closure will be in place for the safety of highway users and our operatives

What is the diversion route?
B1071, A1141, A134, B1115 and vice versa.

What do I need to know about the temporary road closure?

Road closures are sometimes essential for the safety of road users and our operatives. If you are based within the closure, we will maintain access where possible. However, there may be times when access is delayed or restricted. Please plan your journeys accordingly and speak to operatives on-site if you require further information.

Residents who have not received their new bins:

If this has not already been reported to Babergh District Council, please do so at [email protected] advising that you have not received your new bins/caddies and include your full address . For residents with no internet access, please advise them to call the council on 0300 1234 000 (option 4), noting they are experiencing extremely high call volumes at the moment.

Continue to use your existing bins until the new bins arrive e.g.
if you have not yet received the new green-lidded bin, continue to put paper and card into your blue bin, along with glass, plastics, metal, and cartons.

Food Waste: Until you receive your new food waste bin, continue to put food waste into the black refuse bin.

Put out bins for collection as per the new schedule.
Change over to new system once bins arrive (or as soon as you practically can thereafter).
The mixed materials in your blue recycling bin, and green-lidded paper and card bin, will still be recycled.

Update on the bin collections:

Your blue bin will go out as normal this week. After that, the new system will be in place. You can start using your food caddies this week.

The Parish Council has just removed an untied bag of dog waste from the dog bag dispenser on Lime Tree Green. The same dispenser that’s in walking distance of two dog waste bins. Show some consideration, please!

VACANCY

Acton Parish Council is looking for a reliable and community-minded individual to work on a self-employed basis as a village litter picker. The role is a flexible two hours per week, 48 weeks a year at a rate of £15 per hour.

Duties include:
· Litter picking around the village roads, footpaths, fields, parks and other public areas
· Reporting fly tipping, vandalism and any safety issues to the Parish Clerk
· Helping to keep the village clean, tidy and welcoming

Requirements:
· Self-employed status
· Own safety clothing and litter grabber
· Reliable and friendly

Please see below notice of an upcoming road closure:

Location: C712 Sudbury Road, Acton - from Tamage Road to Vicarage Lane

Date & Time: Tuesday 5 May 2026 (10am-3pm)

Please note that while the road closure times are as stated above, it's likely that the teams on site will not be present for the full duration. All works will be carried out within the timeframe stated.

Reason for Closure: Road repairs

Access Arrangements: Access and egress will be maintained where safe and possible to do so. Please speak to a member of staff on site. Through traffic will need to follow the diversion route In place.

Diversion Route: A134, B1115, Ten Tree Road, Waldingfield Road, High Street and vice versa.
