It was fantastic joining our local MP Tom Morrison last week at the Re-Engage UK meet-up hosted by Outside The Box Board Game Cafe in Bramhall!

Re-Engage UK organises monthly gatherings for residents over 75 who might be feeling a bit isolated, bringing people together for a brew, some board games, and a chat.

It’s so encouraging to see this kind of positive work happening directly on our doorstep. Tackling loneliness among older residents makes a huge difference to our local area, and simple events like this show just how strong our Bramhall community is.

A big thank you to David and Kelly from Re-Engage UK, to Heather for her BSL interpreting so everyone could be included, and to Rachel and Helen at Outside The Box for welcoming everyone so warmly.

Bramhall, we need to talk. 💙

For months now, residents have been telling us the same thing: blue bin collections just weren't cutting it. So we made sure that message got through, loud and clear.

Fortnightly blue bin collections are coming back, from the start of December, in time for Christmas when we all have extra paper and card to recycle!

You spoke, we listened. Thanks for everything you've raised with us on this, it genuinely made the difference. This is what happens when a community speaks up together.

Great news for bin collections…paper and card recycling collections are doubling! 🔵📦

As your local Liberal Democrat councillors, we’re always listening to feedback from residents across our area. The message was loud and clear: you wanted paper and card collected more often, and a service that makes recycling as easy as possible.

We’re delighted to announce that our Lib Dem-led Council is bringing blue bin collections back to every two weeks. The new schedule will be in place before Christmas, just in time to help manage the extra cardboard and paper that always comes with the busy Christmas season.

Updated collection dates will be included in the new paper calendars arriving at households this autumn, with full details also going live on the Stockport Council website soon.

The move is part of the Liberal Democrat administration's commitment to delivering reliable local services, boosting recycling and responding directly to residents' concerns.

!! BIN UPDATE !!

We know lots of residents have had bin collections missed over the last couple of weeks, particularly around strict enforcement on bin lids.

The change was made by Totally Local Company, who run the council's bin collections, and wasn't escalated to senior council officers before it rolled out, which is why residents weren't told in advance. The Cabinet Member responsible for waste services has apologised for the disruption, and the council is now reviewing its communication processes to stop this happening again.

🌿Help Protect Stockport's Parks and Green Spaces This Summer 🌿

With the recent moorland fires across Greater Manchester and the wider region, we're being reminded just how quickly fires can spread and the devastating impact they can have on wildlife, habitats, communities and emergency services.

To help reduce the risk, disposable BBQs, fire pits, open flames, fireworks and sky lanterns are now prohibited in Stockport's parks and open spaces.

As the warm, dry weather continues, please take extra care when enjoying our local green spaces and help us keep them safe for everyone.

🚧 Road Maintenance Works on Manchester East Airport Link 🚧

Residents may notice roadworks taking place on the Manchester East Airport Link between Kingsway and Macclesfield Road.

Stockport Council's contractor, Totally Local Company, is carrying out high-speed road maintenance works from 20 July to 27 July. To minimise disruption, the works are being undertaken during off-peak hours, but temporary eastbound and westbound lane closures will be in place throughout the programme.

Please allow extra time for your journeys if travelling through the area and take care when passing the works.

After residents reported a dangerous tree on Meadway East Car Park, Cllr Dallas Jones stepped in immediately. Cllr Jones worked directly with our brilliant council officers, who moved incredibly quickly to get the hazard dealt with.

We're pleased to report that thanks to this swift teamwork, the tree has now been safely removed, making the area secure for everyone walking past and driving through.

This is just another example of the daily, practical issues we as your local Lib Dem councillors work on to keep our community safe and looked after.

As your local Bramhall team, we have been working together with local police for a safer community.

Our local police team is hosting a PACT meeting next week, and we highly encourage you to attend to discuss any issues you feel are affecting the community.

We maintain a great working relationship with our local officers, and these meetings are a brilliant opportunity to discuss community safety. It’s your chance to speak directly with local police about any issues or concerns you have in our neighborhood.

By working hand-in-hand with our local officers and residents, we can keep our communities safe together.

Kingsway flooding update 💧

Another local issue we’ve been working on.

Following reports from residents about ongoing flooding problems on Kingsway, we raised the issue with the Council’s highways team and pushed for a full investigation.

We’re pleased to say that action is now being taken. Surveys have been carried out and the Council will be replacing a number of defective gully pots, as well as cleaning and testing the drainage connections to make sure everything is working properly. They will also be liaising with United Utilities.

🗓️ Works are currently due to start on Monday 13th July and are expected to take up to a week, with working hours between 9.00am - 16.00pm.

We’ll continue to keep a close eye on the situation and stay in contact with officers until the works are fully completed.
This is another example of the kind of behind-the-scenes work we do as your local Lib Dem councillors to get things sorted.
