SCOTTISH WATER - UPDATE: CORNTON ROAD STIRLING SEWER REPAIR

I am writing to provide an update on our emergency works in Cornton Road.

Work has progressed well this week, and we can confirm that the damaged manhole has been rebuilt and the sinkhole repaired.
We will therefore be in a position to lift the full road closure and revert to a single lane closure under two-way temporary traffic lights by the end of the day on Friday 22 May.

The lane closure and temporary lights are required in order to allow our operatives to carry out final reinstatement of the work area.
Our operatives have been working hard under difficult conditions to carry out these technically challenging repairs as quickly and as safely as possible. The work programme has required teams to carry out two six-metre excavations and to completely rebuild a damaged manhole.

Emergency works are rarely straightforward and multiple challenges can arise. However, the planning and design work that was carried out early on, as well as actions such as altering a six-inch water main encased in concrete, have allowed this significant piece of work to be carried out as quickly as possible.
We are fully aware of the disruption these essential works have been causing and have listened to the community about the need to reopen the road.

We remain extremely grateful for the patience, understanding and cooperation of the community and all those affected as these essential works are carried out.
Kind regards,
Alex Johnston | Communications and Engagement Consultant

Communication from Stirling Council to share:

RADIO 2 IN THE PARK TO TAKE PLACE IN STIRLING
ON FRIDAY 11TH – SUNDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Radio 2 is bringing its flagship live music extravaganza to City Park in Stirling from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th September.

Radio 2 in the Park will present live performances from some of the world’s most popular pop stars (including some local favourites!), all introduced by your favourite Radio 2 presenters.

The action kicks off on Friday 11th September with a brilliant party at the Radio 2 DJ stage, where your favourite Radio 2 presenters will be playing some of their favourite tunes, ahead of a weekend packed with stellar live performances and DJ sets.

With tens of thousands of music fans expected to attend, the event promises to be an unforgettable music spectacular.

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2 says: “I’m delighted to be able to confirm the dates of Radio 2 in the Park in Stirling for September. Our line-up remains as star studded as ever and we look forward to announcing which of your favourite artists will be performing in Stirling in the coming weeks.”

Vernon Kay, who hosts weekday midmornings on Radio 2, presents the UK’s most listened to radio show with an audience of 6.63 million listeners each week.
Vernon says: “The date is locked in the diary and Stirling, we are coming for you! Scotland always brings such an amazing atmosphere and one of the best crowds anywhere, so I’ve no doubt this one’s going to be an absolute belter! It’s going to be a massive weekend of live music, great energy, and unforgettable moments. See you in September!”

All of the weekend’s live performances will be broadcast on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, as well as iPlayer.

Stirling Council Leader, Cllr Susan McGill said: “We can’t wait to welcome fans and artists to our amazing city in September for an unforgettable celebration of world-class live music set to the stunning backdrop of the historic Stirling Castle. Here in Stirling we have a proud track record of successfully staging major music events. Stirling is one of the best-connected places in the country, welcoming visitors from across Scotland, the UK and from all over the world to enjoy what our city and the wider Stirlingshire area has to offer. We all look forward to welcoming visitors to enjoy the best of music in the heart of Scotland.”

Radio 2 has covered Celtic Connections and staged numerous outside broadcasts in Scotland over the years – including the triumphant Glasgow finale of Paddy McGuinness’ Children in Need Challenge in 2024. Radio 2 in the Park 2026 marks the first major Radio 2 live music event in Scotland since BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend in May 2018 at Scone Castle, Perth. In 2023, Radio 1’s Big Weekend took place in Camperdown Country Park in Dundee in 2023, and the BBC Radio 6 Music festival took place in 2017, which featured a legendary set by Depeche Mode at the Barrowlands, the first time in 33 years since they’d performed at the venue.
This follows last year’s Radio 2 in the Park which was held in Chelmsford, 2024’s event in Preston and 2023’s festival in Leicester.
Further information about Radio 2 in the Park, including the full artist line-up and ticketing details will be announced at a later date.

Good afternoon, sharing this important resource platform from our NHS with our community:

To mark Dementia Action Week (18–24 May), we’ve launched the Practical Dementia Resources platform. Funded by the Scottish Government, this new website and app have been designed to support frontline staff and carers across the sector.

The platform, hosted on NHS Scotland’s Right Decision Service, provides practical tips that have reduced stress and distress for people living with dementia, without the need for medication. It features more than 30 resources in accessible formats, including short videos, animations, audio clips, and text.

Developed over two years in consultation with frontline practitioners, the platform focuses on peer-to-peer shared learning and person-centred care. It addresses common care challenges through real-world examples, such as:

• How subtle changes to the care environment (such as altering lighting or curtains) can significantly reduce visual distress
• How adapting staff approaches during personal care can lower anxiety and reduce the reliance on psychoactive medication.
The platform is an evolving resource that will continue to expand, and we are actively encouraging care workers to share their own best practice stories.

Here is a useful video explaining How to use the Practical Dementia Resources website and app

Please consider sharing the platform link with your teams and networks and publishing a social media post, such as the one provided below, with the graphic attached in this email.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kindest regards

💬 Residents, community groups and other key stakeholders are being asked for their feedback on another key part of Stirling’s Local Development Plan (LDP) as it continues to take shape.

This part of the consultation will gather people’s views on the plan’s spatial strategy and the site options that are currently being considered for inclusion.

The spatial strategy will dictate where and how growth, development and land-use change will happen in the Stirling Council area (except Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park), directing investment and housing to the most appropriate locations.

The site options shown in this round of the consultation come from two places:

👉 Sites submitted by landowners and developers during the Call for Sites, which ran from August to October 2025.

👉 Sites already identified for development in the current Stirling Local Development Plan that have not yet started and therefore need to be reassessed to decide whether they should be included in the next plan.

Stirling Council Leader, Cllr Susan McGill said: “The new Local Development Plan will guide how your community and the wider Stirling area looks in the future so it will impact everyone who lives, works and visits here.

“The site options part of this consultation is particularly crucial as it will enable residents, community groups and other stakeholders to have their say on how and where new housing, jobs and infrastructure developments happen in the coming years.

“Participating in the surveys will give a voice to the needs and aspirations of your local area and help shape a plan that delivers thriving communities and sustainable growth for all of Stirling – so please take part before the deadline of 23 July.”

A number of drop-in events have been arranged to support this part of the consultation:

➡ Strathblane – Wednesday 20 May (1-6pm) in Edmonstone Hall
➡ Kippen – Thursday 21 May (1-6pm) in Kippen Village Hall
➡ Blairlogie – Wednesday 27 May (1-6pm) in Blairlogie Reading Room
➡ Gargunnock – Thursday 28 May (2-6.30pm) in Gargunnock Community Centre
➡ Plean, including Bannockburn and Cowie – Tuesday 2 June (11am-3pm) in Balfour Community Centre
➡ Bridge of Allan – Wednesday 3 June (1-6pm) in the Allan Centre
➡ Doune and Deanston – Thursday 4 June (1.45pm to 5.45pm) in the Rural Hall
➡ Fallin – Thursday 11 June (1.15-6.15pm) in Fallin Library
➡ Buchlyvie – Wednesday 17 June (12.15-6.30pm) in Buchlyvie Village Hall.

More information about these, including location details, can be found on the Site Options consultation webpage on the Engage Stirling website. You can also take part in the surveys here: engage.stirling.gov.uk/en-GB/folders/local-development-plan

Further drop-in events are planned to take place during June in the following areas: Balfron, Bannockburn, Doune/Deanston, Dunblane, Killearn, Stirling, Thornhill, and Throsk. Dates, times, and venues for these events will be confirmed and published on the Engage Stirling website.

Good evening, we have received this communication from Scottish Water to share in our community, please feel free to share, thanks

I am writing to provide a further update on our emergency works in Cornton Road, Stirling.

You may be aware of an incident which took place on the level crossing last night, involving a pedestrian, which resulted in the crossing being closed by emergency services. Our thoughts first and foremost are with the individual and their family.

A team was immediately mobilised and on site within an hour, to support the emergency services with a contingency plan for access. This, however, was not needed as general vehicular access was enabled through the re-opening of the crossing a short time later.

While the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to us that 24/7 access has always been available through our work site as a contingency measure in the event of a level crossing closure, we have since enhanced this arrangement and our new joint plan will enable their response to be quicker and safer, and has been well received by the SFRS. The SFRS has also assessed our site and we have been liaising with the local station commander.

On-site, progress is being made: the excavation is complete with the damaged infrastructure now exposed; today works have gotten under way to rebuild the manhole; and we have been able to complete a time-sensitive repair to a defect we were previously unaware of.

We hope to be in a position next week to provide a positive update on our timeline for repair; meantime we offer our continued thank you for the patience and understanding of customers as we fully appreciated the disruption these essential works are causing.
Kind regards

Sharon
