Are you looking for a rewarding summer job offering the chance to earn some extra qualifications and quality work experience?

As a Casual Beach Lifeguard, Senior Beach Lifeguard or Seafront Warden you will operate at one of our Beach Patrol/Seafront Warden buildings at designated bathing beaches along the coastline (Clacton, Walton, Frinton, Brightlingsea and Dovercourt). When you are patrolling the seafronts, you will be advising bathers of potential hazards and dangers and also responsible for checking and maintaining public rescue equipment. In an emergency, you will be required to work calmly under pressure, co-operating efficiently with the relevant emergency services.

Health and safety and first aid training is also provided. Beach Lifeguards will attend an RLSS beach lifeguard course and, if you are 18 or over, a RYA personal watercraft course if you do not have these qualifications. To find out more and apply, visit the vacancies page on our Tendring District Council website before the closing date on Wednesday 11th February 2026.

The 2025 Season is over! 👋

Sunday 31st August marked the end of peak season for our service across the Tendring district! It’s been a busy one, but our lifeguards and wardens have now packed up all stations for the year and will no longer be patrolling the beaches until 2026 🏖️

Thank you for your support as ever, and to our incredible team who have devoted their summer to keeping the beaches as safe as possible 🌟

If you see anyone in trouble at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. 🛟

See you in 2026! 🌊

Sunday, August 31st marked the Ganesha Visarjan festival in Clacton. This is an event we lifeguard every year on top of our usual service 🌊

The event is a Hindu ceremony which celebrates the elephant god, Ganesh – a figure representing wisdom and learning. To end the ceremony, crowds enter the sea where the statues crumble into the water. 🌊🌅

We’re pleased the event all went smoothly, and four members or our team even got involved in the celebrations and blessed on stage in front of the crowds. 🐘

A big thank you to the event team for their cooperation and kindness throughout the day, and Paul Ost Photography for the photos 🛟

Are you going to sea on a Kayak or Paddleboard? 🛶

If you’re planning a trip, reduce the risks further with these safety tips:
• Always check the weather and tide times (if there’s an offshore wind DO NOT go out!) 💨
• Wear a personal flotation device and if suitable, a wetsuit too 🛟
• Carry a means of calling for help, you may need to buy a waterproof phone case for this! 📱

If you get into trouble at the coast or at sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard 🌊

Just today our teams across the district got 279 people off or away from Groynes, Rocks and breakwaters - and 151 people away from Clacton and Walton pier. These areas are marked with permanent red flags and clear signage for a reason; they’re dangerous. 🚩

👆 Here’s a reminder of the incident on Clacton’s Groyne 41 just a few years ago which left the causality with potentially life altering injuries after they ignored beach patrols advice.

We’re here to keep you safe, but we need your help too! Please respect the flags, follow the signs, listen to staff and enjoy the beach safely! Your cooperation means preventable incidents, like the one mentioned, are avoided! 🌊

Swim Safe is BACK! 💥

We’ve already had multiple days of FREE water safety sessions in Clacton! But there’s exactly 200 spaces still available*, that means 200 more children aged 7-14 could know how what to do when in danger in the sea 🌊

If your child can swim 25m unaided, come join us at Martello Beach and Learn how to:
🚩 Understand beach safety flags
🌊 Float to live
🛟 Stay safe in and around the sea

https://swimsafe.org.uk/locations/clacton-on-sea

📅 Sessions are running until 8th August, so don’t miss out!

We are proud to work alongside and by lifeguarding the sessions at Martello Bay 🏖️

Wow! 😯 The sun was shining and you visited in your (tens of) thousands to the Tendring seafront!

Here’s a quick recap of some of the things we got up to in the past TWO days! 🤯

🏊‍♀️ 178 Swimmers found to be out of their depth
🚤 14 Jet Ski Launches to people of concern
🎡 113 People moved away from near or under the Pier
👥 15 Missing people reunited (of which 2 were reported missing in the sea)
🪨 273 People removed from rocks & groynes
📞 6 calls to emergency services
& ⛑️ 33 First aids performed

All this action has led to our lifeguards to perform multiple successful rescues across two busy days on our miles of coastline!

Remember to always check beach conditions before your visit, swim at a lifeguarded beach, and if you find yourself in trouble, ! 🌊
