Action for Blind People is running some activities for young people up to 17 years old with a visual impairment and their families:
1. Saturday 25th June - Trentham Gardens and Monkey Forest Visual Impairment Family Day
A great chance for families of those with visual impairments to get to know each other. We’ll meet some primates in the morning, living as they would in their natural habitats. We’ll follow it up with a lakeside picnic, fairy woodland and mystery maze treasure hunt and a trip to the adventure playground.
Venue: Trentham Gardens and Monkey Forest, Trentham Estate, Stone Road, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 8AX.
Time: 10.30am – 4pm.
Available to: 0-17 year olds with a visual impairment and their families. Parents/carers must stay. Siblings also welcome (maximum of 2 per family). Families are responsible for their own personal care. Please advise the provider of any special requirements in advance of the activity.
Maximum number of attendees: 12 families.
Cost: There will be a charge of £10 per person if this is an additional activity to your Free Aiming High Offer.
2. Saturday 23rd July - Visual Impairment Sports and Parent/Carer Information Day
We’ll start the day with some fun activities for the whole family, after which the under 18’s will have a go at football, goalball, cricket and athletics.
Parents/carers will have the option to watch and help in the sports sessions or chat about what is available to support their family over a cup of tea or coffee.
We’ll join up for some more joint family fun in the last hour.
Venue: The Gordon Banks Sports Centre, Knutton Lane, Newcastle, ST5 2GB.
Time: 10.30am – 3.30pm.
Available to: 0-17 year olds with a visual impairment and their parents/carers. Parents/carers must stay. Families are responsible for their own personal care. Please advise the provider of any special requirements in advance of the activity.

3. Family Residential Trip - Kingswood Family Activity Weekend - 6pm on 23rd September – 1pm on 25th September
Venue: Kingswood Activities Centre, Barn Lane, Nr Albrighton, Wolverhampton, WV7 3AW.
We’ll have some introductory games on the first evening before splitting into family groups for the activities over the weekend. Everyone will have the opportunity to take part in activities such as archery, climbing and bushcraft, even Mum and Dad!
Available to: 0-17 year olds with a visual impairment and their families.
Maximum number of attendees: 30 people.
Cost: £50 per family. The price of this activity is applicable to all and cannot be redeemed as part of the Aiming High free activities. This activity has a set cost that includes accommodation, activities and food.
