In May 2026, the Parish Council commissioned a comprehensive speed survey covering 16 locations across the village. The data has now been analysed and the full report is available on our website:

The results will inform our ongoing discussions with:

• Hampshire County Council on potential road safety improvements;
• Hampshire Constabulary to request more speed enforcement;
• Wi******er City Council and the South Downs National Park when we are considering future housing development.

Addressing the issue of speeding is a key priority for the Parish Council. We operate three Speed Indicator Devices (smiley face signs) across 11 village locations as well as an AutoSpeedWatch camera. Data from this camera is sent to Hampshire Constabulary each month.

We are also helping a group of residents establish a Community Speedwatch group but need lots more volunteers. Please email us if you would like to get involved and/or if you have any comments on the survey: [email protected].

South Downs National Park Local Plan- what happens next?

The Regulation 19 consultation on the proposed new South Downs Local Plan closed on 23 June 2026.

SDNP officers are currently reviewing all consultation responses and supporting documents.

A summary of the representations received, and any proposed modifications will be considered by the Planning Committee on 12 November 2026 and by the National Park Authority on 8 December 2026.

Subject to the Authority’s decision in December, the Local Plan is expected to be submitted for examination and approval by the Planning Inspectorate before the end of 2026.

Hampshire County Council has secured funding to install 17,000 electric vehicle charging points across the county.

The scheme forms part of a national strategy to expand neighbourhood provision, addressing the current challenges faced by households without access to private off-street parking such as driveways or garages.

Last year, residents told us that our website was difficult to navigate, lacked important information, and generally wasn't meeting expectations. We agreed that improvements were needed.

Since then, we have been working closely with https://www.greenfieldsites.co.uk/ to create a modern, user-friendly website that better serves our community.

As well as making Council information easier to find and navigate, we have expanded our community section. In particular, we have introduced a What's On page, where residents, community groups, and visitors can add events themselves, creating a comprehensive and up-to-date calendar of local activities happening in Swanmore.

We hope the new website will become a valuable resource for everyone who lives in, works in, or visits our community.
