đź’› Reflections from Restart Staff: Supporting Through the Child Protection Process đź’›

Supporting parents through the child protection process is some of the most delicate and important work we do. It is a space filled with emotion — fear, hope, uncertainty, and, above all, a deep love for their children.

For our staff, this role is about walking alongside parents during moments that can feel incredibly overwhelming. The process itself can be complex and, at times, intimidating — filled with meetings, decisions, and conversations that carry huge weight.

We see the worry many parents carry.
The fear of being judged or misunderstood.
The strength it takes to engage, to listen, and to keep showing up — even when it feels difficult.

Our role is not to take over, but to support — to help people feel heard, understood, and less alone in a system that can feel daunting. Sometimes that support looks like preparing for a meeting, sometimes it’s helping someone find their voice, and sometimes it’s simply being there to sit alongside them in those tough moments.

There are challenges.
These conversations aren’t easy.
The emotions are real and often complex.

But there are also powerful moments:
When someone begins to feel more confident in speaking up.
When understanding grows, even just a little.
When steps are taken — however small — towards stability, safety, and positive change.

What stays with us most is the resilience we see every day. The determination of parents who want the best for their children, even when facing difficult circumstances.

To every parent going through this process — we recognise your strength, your efforts, and your commitment to your children 💛

✨ Gentle reminder:
If you or someone you know needs support during this time, please reach out. You don’t have to navigate it alone — there is support available to walk alongside you.

đź’› Reflections from Restart Staff: Supporting Change and Accountability đź’›

Working with individuals in a behaviour change programme is a complex and important part of addressing domestic abuse. It requires honesty, patience, and a willingness to have difficult conversations — always with a focus on safety, accountability, and meaningful change.

For our staff, this work is about more than just challenging behaviours — it’s about supporting individuals to truly reflect on their actions and understand the impact they have had on others.

There are moments that stand out.
Moments where defensiveness begins to soften.
Where blame starts to shift into reflection.
Where someone, sometimes for the first time, says: “I understand what I’ve done.”
These moments are not easy.
They don’t happen quickly, and they don’t happen without support, challenge, and consistent boundaries.

We see:
The difficulty in unlearning harmful behaviours and beliefs
The discomfort that comes with taking responsibility
The ongoing work it takes to make different, safer choices

Our role is to hold individuals accountable, while also supporting them to understand that change is possible — but only when responsibility is fully owned.
There are challenges.
Progress can be slow.
There can be setbacks.
But there are also powerful moments of insight:
When someone begins to recognise patterns in their behaviour
When empathy starts to develop
When responsibility replaces denial
Those moments matter — because they represent a step towards safer relationships and a reduction in harm.

This work isn’t about excusing behaviour.
It’s about addressing it, challenging it, and supporting long-term change that prioritises the safety and wellbeing of others.
To everyone involved in this process — change is not easy, but taking responsibility is where it begins 💛

✨ Gentle reminder:
If you or someone you know would benefit from a behaviour change programme, or you want to learn more about how to support safer, respectful relationships, please reach out. Support and guidance are available.

đź’› Reflections from the Restart Team: Empowerment Groups đź’›

Delivering empowerment groups for women who have experienced domestic abuse is one of the most powerful parts of the work we do.

These groups are more than just sessions — they are spaces where women come together, often from very different experiences, but with a shared understanding that doesn’t need to be explained.
For our staff, it is a privilege to witness what happens in these spaces.

We see:
The courage it takes to walk into that room for the first time
The quietness at the beginning, where trust is still growing
The gradual shift as voices become stronger and confidence begins to build

Over time, something really special happens.
Conversations open up.
Laughter starts to creep in alongside the difficult topics.
And connections begin to form — genuine, supportive friendships built on understanding and respect.

These groups create a space where women can:
đź’› Feel believed and validated
đź’¬ Share experiences without judgement
🌿 Learn, reflect, and grow at their own pace

There can be emotional moments.
Stories shared, feelings resurfaced, and difficult truths faced.
But alongside this, there is also so much strength:
Women lifting each other up
Encouraging one another
Reminding each other they are not alone
And sometimes, it’s the simplest moments that stay with us most —
A shared smile
A moment of laughter
Someone saying, “I didn’t realise others felt like this too”

Those moments matter. They remind us that healing doesn’t just happen individually — it can happen together.

To every woman who has walked into one of these groups — your courage to show up, to connect, and to grow is incredible 💛

✨ Gentle reminder:
If you or someone you know could benefit from an empowerment group, please reach out. You don’t have to do this journey alone — there is a community ready to support you.

🌸 End of May Reflections 🌸

As we come to the end of May, we want to take a moment to gently pause and reflect đź’›

This month may have brought a mix of emotions — strength, challenges, small victories, and moments that felt heavy. Whatever your experience has been, please know that every step you’ve taken matters.

To our service users — healing and rebuilding isn’t a straight path. The courage it takes to keep going, even on difficult days, is something to be truly proud of. Whether your progress felt big or barely noticeable, it still counts 🌿

To our staff — thank you for the kindness, patience, and dedication you continue to show. The safe spaces you help create change lives every single day 💚

✨ As we close this month, a few gentle reminders:
• Progress doesn’t need to be perfect to be real
• Rest is just as important as moving forward
• You deserve compassion — especially from yourself

And as we step into a new month…
👉 There’s no pressure to “start fresh” overnight
👉 You can carry forward your strength at your own pace
👉 Even the smallest hope is enough to begin again

If May felt long, challenging, or even a bit of a blur — you made it through. And that, in itself, is something worth recognising 🌼
We’re here with you, every step into the next chapter.

📢 How Restart Supports You Through Clare’s Law (DVDS Disclosures) 📢

At Restart, we are proud to work alongside Northumbria Police to support individuals in South Tyneside through the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme — often known as Clare’s Law.

We understand that receiving a disclosure about someone’s past can be an incredibly emotional and overwhelming experience. That’s why you won’t go through it alone.

When a disclosure is made:
👥 A member of the Restart team will be there at every disclosure
🤝 We sit alongside you throughout the conversation with the police
đź’› We help ensure the information is shared in a safe, supportive way
Once the disclosure has been given, Northumbria Police will step away — but our support continues.

We will:
🌿 Give you time and space to process what you’ve been told
đź’¬ Talk through what the information means for you
🛡️ Explore your options at your pace
đź’› Provide ongoing emotional and practical support

There is no pressure to make immediate decisions. This is about ensuring you feel informed, supported, and empowered to take the next steps that feel right for you.

✨ You are not alone in this process. We are here every step of the way.

If you would like to know more about Clare’s Law or the support available, please reach out.
