5 years ago tomorrow I voted for the first time in a Scottish Parliament election, I gave my vote to Siobhian Brown SNP where she had dethroned the tories in Ayr. This time round I stay in Maybole and am happily giving my vote Katie Hagmann SNP. So if you think your vote doesn’t matter 5 years ago I helped to remove the Tories from Ayr as the constituency MSP. I then voted for Cllr Laura Brennan-Whitefield and the late Mark Dixon 2022 when I stayed with my mum… how time changes. Remember to vote SNP tomorrow. And keep voting SNP until Scotland is independent at every level.

Labour Brian fae Ayr literally talks rubbish. 🚮

For anyone living in South Ayrshire council region, the past few years have been shaped by decisions taken since the local council elections in 2022 — decisions that many residents feel have had serious consequences for local services, finances and community confidence.

What’s less widely understood is how that Tory administration came to be.

In the leadership vote of 2022, Labour councillor Brian from Ayr, and other labour councillors chose to abstain. That single decision enabled the tories taking control.

Many people in South Ayrshire believe that moment set the tone for the years of financial strain and questionable decision‑making that followed.

So when the labour Holyrood candidate for Ayr claims to be a ‘local champion’ , we have to counter claim that he’s talking rubbish.

*Remember those expensive talking bins?*

Residents expect their representatives to fully participate in decisions of that scale. He’d just been elected in local elections and his first decision was to NOT vote with the will of the majority of voters to keep the Tories out of power.

When an elected member steps back at a critical moment, communities feel the impact. That’s why the labour abstention is still discussed today — because it mattered.

Many people feel that this failure to act by labour let South Ayrshire down. It left residents without the representation they expected at a pivotal moment.

Yet Brian from Ayr continues to present himself as a “local champion”.

People across Ayr, Prestwick and Troon have long memories. They remember who stood up, who stepped back, and who shaped the direction of the council during one of the most challenging periods in recent years.

In contrast, many residents highlight our local MSP Siobhian Brown SNP over the past five years — her visibility, her responsiveness, and her consistent engagement with local issues. People frequently point to her work on:

- Supporting victims of crime
- Championing environmental improvements
- Promoting local businesses and the wider region
- Backing community programmes like Cashback for Communities

That’s the kind of work people often describe as genuine local leadership — someone who shows up, listens and acts.

Whatever your political views, it’s worth remembering the decisions that shaped the last few years, the people who consistently worked to support the area, and the choices made in 2022 by labour Brian fae Ayr, that many residents still feel the effects of today.
