It’s National Hedgerow Week! 🌱

Let’s hear it for these green superheroes! 🙌

Hedgerows aren’t just countryside features. This curious robin kept a close eye on the team at Tudor Grange School when we planted a brand-new hedgerow, perhaps scouting out a cosy new home. 🐦

Hedgerows provide vital food and shelter for wildlife, help clean the air, and even store carbon below the surface. Follow along this week as we celebrate the mighty hedgerow and all the benefits it brings to our communities!

🌳 Spotted a new street tree near you? Give it a helping hand! 💧

Our Urban Forest team is out watering newly planted trees across Solihull this spring and summer. Over the last three planting seasons, we've planted 1,000+ street trees in the borough – all of which are regularly watered by our team. But they’d love a little extra help from local residents! ❤️

🚿 How you can help:
A bucket of water once a week, poured down the black watering pipe and around the base, can make a huge difference – especially in warm weather. These young trees need plenty of water for their first 3 years while they’re getting established. You really can’t overwater them!

Together, let’s help Solihull’s trees grow strong and healthy for generations to come. 🌱🌞

🌳We had a fantastic week collaborating with the dedicated teachers and enthusiastic pupils from Forest Oak School, Merstone School, and Smith's Wood Academy. 💚Together, we planted 1,500 new hedgerow saplings around the school boundaries, enhancing air quality, capturing carbon, and creating vital wildlife habitats. A special thank you to the Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Shahin Ashraf MBE, for joining us and supporting our Planting Our Future campaign.

Pupils in Smith’s Wood were joined by the Mayor of Solihull last week to help plant new hedgerows, as part of the Council’s ambitious Planting Our Future campaign.

🌳 A huge thank you to everyone at Barkers' Butts RFC for their incredible support in yesterdays tree planting at Barkers’. 🌿

We were grateful for the warm welcome and enthusiasm from everyone involved. A special shoutout to MACE and their volunteers for their hard work, and to Ady, Pete, and George from Barkers' Butts for their efforts in making this all possible.

And of course, a big thank you to Nick, the Club photographer, for capturing some fantastic moments – it’s great to see them shared on social media! 📸

Our amazing Solihull Tree Wardens have been busy learning all about pruning apple and pear trees! From *why* we prune, to when, where, and how—they've gained a comprehensive understanding to help our local fruit trees flourish. 🌿✨

Storm Darragh: update

A big thank you to residents for your patience and understanding as we continue to deal with the aftermath of Storm Darragh.

We’ve cleared all the emergency call outs and ensured the safety of affected areas, but the clean-up operation is likely to extend over the coming weeks.

Please contact 0121 704 8000 if you see:
• A branch split and at risk of falling.
• Trees obstructing a path or roadway.
• A tree on Solihull Council-owned land posing an immediate danger or health and safety risk.

Solihull Council and Emergency Forestry crews from Veolia, the Council’s environmental partner, have been working tirelessly through driving wind and rain to address the widespread impact caused by Storm Darragh. Crews have been on the ground since the storm began, responding to incidents and prioritising public safety.
