Please see this South Yorkshire Mayor consultation on a new tram fleet;

A new generation of trams is being planned for South Yorkshire.

After more than 30 years in service, the current Supertram fleet is reaching the point where it needs to be replaced. Newer tram designs can offer a better travel experience, with features that improve comfort, accessibility and convenience for passengers.

As plans for the next fleet are developed, feedback received will help us understand what people value most when travelling and where improvements can make the biggest difference.

With the current Supertram fleet approaching the end of its operational life, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for people across South Yorkshire to help shape the trams that will serve the region for decades to come.

The new fleet will play a central role in the South Yorkshire People's Network, SYMCA's vision for a fully integrated public transport system that better connects communities and makes it easier for people to get around South Yorkshire. By bringing different ways of travelling together, the network aims to make everyday journeys simpler and more convenient for the people who live, work and visit South Yorkshire.

SYMCA is undertaking public engagement until Friday 18 September 2026 to seek views on the proposals to make it easier for people to choose public transport.

We want to hear your thoughts on plans for a brand-new Supertram fleet as part of the South Yorkshire People’s Network. This is your opportunity to tell us what matters most to you, from step-free access and seating layouts to space for wheelchairs, pushchairs and bikes. We’d also like your views on features such as air conditioning, onboard information screens, safety measures and other improvements that could make travelling easier, more comfortable and more reliable.

Your feedback will help shape the future of Supertram, so whether you travel every day or only occasionally, we’d love to hear from you.

The easiest way to take part is by completing a short questionnaire online at http://www.sypn.gov.uk/tramfleet, which also explains the proposals and includes design concepts to help you understand the proposals. Alternatively, paper copies will be available at the Customer Service Desk at Sheffield Interchange, Meadowhall Interchange and Sheffield Railway Station. Those who do not have access to the internet can call 0800 952 0002 to request a copy of the engagement pack by post.

See the proposals on Wednesday 12 August - 15:00 to 16:00 at The Workstation, Sheffield, S1 2BX.

From Monday 10 August to Friday 18 September 2026, we’re asking for your views on travelling by Supertram and what you’d like future journeys to look like. on plans to increase the capacity of Meadowhall Interchange Park & Ride

Your locally elected Hillsborough Councillors are holding their monthly surgery on Friday 4th September from 9 to 10am at Hillsborough First Point, Langsett Road, S6 2LR at the Barracks Parade shops. Feel free to drop in if you have something you'd like to discuss with us.

If you cannot make it at this time, you can DM me on Messenger, or email us at the addresses below. We are happy to arrange a face-to-face meeting with you if necessary.

Another alternative is to pop along to our S6 Foodbank collection on the 4th Saturday of each month except December outside the Green Shop on the corner of Wadsley Lane and Marlcliffe Road. A Councillor is usually there between 10.30 and 11.30am to answer any questions that you may have.

Following complaints from local residents we did a survey of the local streets around Sheffield Wednesday FC for dangerous/illegal parking during Saturday's match. It was amazing to hear the uproar as the goals piled in for the fabulous 7-2 win. Fingers crossed that this is something we'll get used to!

Parking on our narrow terraced streets is a very difficult issue as the housing was simply not designed for the number of vehicles, particularly on matchdays.

Please always be considerate, leaving space on pavements for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and prams, and avoiding parking on any road junction blocking crossing points or visibility.

I was very proud, as the Chair of the Central Local Area Committee, to officially open the lovely Pitstop area at the junction of Burton Road and Rutland Road at Kelham Island. If you are visiting local attractions like the Cutlery Works, its really worth looking at.

There's great street art, and beautiful scented planting of herbs and flowers in disabled accessible raised beds. It's all been created by the Percy Street Collective - helping young vulnerable adults into employment.

Toby Mallinson: Your local Councillors were very pleased to support the Friends of Wisewood and District at their fantastic community family day last Saturday on their community garden. There were loads of activities and games including the Escafeld Knights.

Located next to Wisewood Sports Centre on Rural Lane, the garden, playground and The Riva Café & Charity Shop cafe are all worth a visit.
