If you are venturing to Littleheath Woods and entering via the steps at the Queenhill / Littleheath Road entrance please be careful. The recent rains have washed the gravel down the slope onto the steps making the footing perhaps challenging. In addition some building work adjacent has damaged the second to top step.
It has been reported to Croydon Council……

On this day, 81 years ago, victory in Europe was declared, signalling the beginning of the ending of WW2.
6 years ago we were in Lockdown and this battered little stone, then freshly painted, was placed in the crook of a tree in Littleheath Woods during our permitted walk time. This was one of many ‘Fairy Stones’ placed in the woods at that time done to A, keep ourselves busy and B, to give some joy to others. Sadly all the Fairy Stones disappeared quickly.
On a recent litter pick he was spotted in the undergrowth. Now he is back home again.

A few years ago we planted a small orchard of a variety of fruit trees in the small field, Clears Croft, primarily so that our young visitors would be able to see that fruit came from a living thing, not just magically appear in a shrink wrapped tray in the supermarket. The stone fruit trees have not done well so we are replacing them when they fail with an apple, which seems to thrive. One of our talented volunteers manages the orchard and his wife has now created some lovely labels to identify the variety of tree.
Come and see the difference between Comice and Conference Pears or Scrumpious, Bountifull and Egremont Apples.

The AGM reminders posted in the woods have a mistake on them. The AGM is in April and not May.

A shot of the completed UKPower Networks underground ductwork across the green on Croham Valley Road and into their electrical compound. Neatly finished off and routed between the two trees at the back of the green so as to avoid the rootballs.

We don’t know when this tree fell but the root system now is like a free form carving.

One of the magnificent oaks in Littleheath Woods.
From the woodland path in September and a private view that one of our supporters allowed us to see, 1st April.
About 90 years ago this tree would have been within the woods. In the late 1920s, early 1930s, this tree began to see full sun on its south west side. Note the lean to the left in the first photo taken from a southerly direction.
And it is not April Fools.
