New one-way system comes into force today
New one-way systems have come into force today along two Scunthorpe streets.
The plans were first announced in March both Teale Street and Percival Street had been identified for the new one-way system in a bid to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety in the area.
Under the new One-Way system vehicles will only be able to enter Teale Street via West Street and travel north exiting onto Berkeley Street. Likewise, vehicles will only be able to enter Percival Street via Frodingham Road, travelling east and then north only along Teale Street onto Berkeley Street.
Around 20 years ago the two streets, along with Porter Street, became part of a Home Zone with the roads being remodeled to help reduce the speed of traffic.
Home zones are mainly created by reducing the dominance and speed of cars and other vehicles by a variety of features (e.g. speed limits, traditional traffic calming, or planters, seats, trees etc). Typically, these streets do not carry large volumes of traffic and are short in length.
Although new road signs have been put up informing motorists of the new one-way system, including one-way signs, directional arrows and No Entry signs, many drivers continue to drive the wrong way.
