Yes to Flags put up by the community legally and with the consent of the community when it is about celebrating the community. No to flags when they are put up illegally in contravention of the Highways act on increasingly inappropriate lampposts, by a group intent on promoting the mass deportation of immigrants alongside other racist and homophobic views of the world. As one person said to me: “Patriots don’t break the law of the country they love [to put up flags].”

They claim to want to see criminals punished to the full extent of the law yet go about breaking the law daily, and thoughtlessly creating an atmosphere where people are afraid to go out because the lighting at night is compromised by flags blowing in the way of street lighting that was already too dim.

Sawley Community Council puts up flags with and in celebration of the community. Long Eaton has an opportunity to have its own Community or Town Council which could do the same on designated flag poles and above not blocking streetlights.
You still have a week left to get involved in that consultation.

Derbyshire County Council It seems that Severntrent Water have closed the twitchel between Hawthorne and Birchwood avenues without notice and without a permit. Looks to be back open temporarily now - not sure if that was Severn Trent or a member of the public taking the initiative.

Maybe our local Reform councillor should have been using his social media to promote recycling over Christmas to those who don't usually do it. From the comments a lot of Sawley and Wilsthorpe residents are thinking "What's he on about? Our recycling bin was full last week, [and we put out extra which EBC collected]. But our black bin is barely half full." And some are saying we could get away with monthly black bin collections.

Sawley Black Bin Collections This Week.

Has anybody else got an extra bin bag that won't fit in the bin?

After a 17 day gap between black bin collections in Sawley & Wilsthorpe, Erewash Borough Council are refusing to collect one extra bin bag in the first collection after Christmas.

Instead, residents are being told to make a 12 mile round trip to Ilkeston Tip with a single bag. Surely this contradicts the 'climate emergency' which EBC declared two years ago? Unless that was just empty words?

Extra waste at Christmas is obvious and predictable due to presents, everyone being in the house etc. It used to be standard practice to collect an extra binbag or two in the first collection after Christmas.

It may not be thr biggest issue in the world but residents are right to ask for basic services for the council tax they pay. I’ve formally challenged this decision with the Director of Community Services and asked EBC to show basic common sense and goodwill toward residents.
