After seeing a fellow runner slip in this last night I decided to spend 15 minutes clearing the pavement to stop others from hurting themselves. It's right on the Milford border to Laverstock so looking out for my fellow ward constituents too👍

More traffic issues into 2026!!

Please see listing below showing closures involving St Marks, Castle Street and St Paul roundabouts provided to me by National Highways:

What’s Happening?

· New digital traffic lights at all three roundabouts

· Improved road markings

· Resurfacing at St Paul’s, Castle roundabouts and part of Wilton Road

The current lights have reached the end of their life and are being replaced with modern, adaptive systems. These new lights will adapt in real-time to the number of vehicles waiting, rather than following a fixed timer, helping to improve traffic flow and reduce queuing for drivers, particularly during busy times of the day. The upgraded traffic signals are more energy efficient, lower power and designed for longer-term reliability.

When Will Work Take Place?

· 19 January – 31 March 2026: Castle and St Mark’s roundabouts

· 1 June – 31 July 2026: St Paul’s roundabout and resurfacing

Closures and Diversions

To work safely, we’ll use lane and full closures during the day and overnight. Signed diversions will be in place. Access for frontages and emergency services will be maintained. Below is a list of the planned closures:

Closures - Castle roundabout

· 19 - 29 January 2026

Full closures and lane closures overnight (8pm – 6am).

· 2 – 23 February 2026

Lane closures during the day.

· 14 - 27 July 2026

Full closures and lane closures overnight (8pm – 6am).

Closures - St Mark’s Roundabout

· 2 – 19 February 2026

Full closures and lane closures overnight (8pm – 6am).

· 2 – 23 March 2026

Lane closures during the day.

Closures - St Paul’s Roundabout

· 1 – 22 June 2026

Full closures and lane closures overnight (8pm – 6am).

· 29 June – 20 July 2026

Lane closures during the day.

· 21 - 31 July 2026

Full closures and lane closures overnight (8pm – 6am).

Working Together

We’ve coordinated with SGN to minimise disruption. Our works follow SGN’s gas mains renewal - the works could not happen at the same time due to the impact they would have on road users.

Please use this information to try and manage the times you are on the roads and hopefully this will help you all avoid some of the disruption these works are going to cause in 2026.

Hopefully in the long term these changes to the traffic light system will help traffic move better around these areas.

Good luck!!

Well done to Salisbury City Council Streetscene team for clearing the leaves from the pathways at Castle street underpass. It makes all the paths much safer to walk or run along. 👏👏

‘Salisbury Conservatives ‘delighted’ with by-election result’ was the strange headline for a piece in the Journal this week.

This is a game-changing moment for global cycling infrastructure! 🌍

England is currently building what they call their "first official Cycle Street" in Cambridge, setting a powerful precedent for cities around the world that want to prioritize safety and active travel.

The core idea is revolutionary: cyclists and pedestrians are given absolute priority over motorists. While vehicles can still use the road, drivers must now yield to cyclists.

This transformation is desperately needed. Even though this route saw thousands of daily cyclists, fast traffic and hazards like blind spots from parked cars turned the path into an "unsafe experience". Dangerous incidents, including riders being knocked off bikes and risks from car doors opening, were far too common.

The redesign tackles these issues directly: it removes much of the on-road parking to eliminate dangerous blind spots and reconfigures intersections to force vehicles to slow down. They are also installing wider sidewalks and improved crossings for walker safety.

This fantastic project, which started construction in October 2025, proves that prioritizing bike travel makes daily commutes safer and easier for everyone. Plus, they are even adding "rain gardens" and green planting to boost biodiversity and manage water.

We hope this concept comes to your city next! 🎉
