๐Ÿ“Ÿ Tasking #36 - Saturday 30th May 12:22 ๐Ÿ“Ÿ

The team were tasked today to assist South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with a female who had slipped whilst walking on the coastpath near the Merry Harvesters stone circle, sustaining a potential broken ankle.

Coastguard Rescue Officers arrived on scene and provided casualty care and treatment whilst awaiting the arrival of the ambulance service. With assistance from our colleagues at Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team, the casualty was carefully transferred into our stretcher and carried to the awaiting ambulance before onward transport for further treatment.

It was a hot day for all involved, although there was still time to appreciate the incredible colour of the sea, with the casualty even commenting that it looked like the Maldives!

The teams regrouped and departed to their respective stations. We restowed kit and ready for further tasking by 3:30pm

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

If you see anyone in difficulty along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Inflatables are great for the pool, but theyโ€™re not safe for the sea.

Even in light winds, they can quickly drift you out to sea and put you in danger.

If youโ€™re heading to the beach this bank holiday, leave inflatables at home and save them for the pool instead.

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Not a bad office for the evening ๐ŸŒ…

Warm temperatures, calm seas and some incredible views across the coastline made for a pretty special one. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

Taking a dip in the sea on a hot day? โ›ฑ๏ธ

Donโ€™t be fooled, just because itโ€™s sunny doesnโ€™t mean the water is warm.

Entering cold water, whether deliberately or accidentally, can cause cold water shock.

When this happens, you may gasp involuntarily, followed by rapid breathing that can be very difficult to control. This can increase the risk of inhaling water and drowning.

Never jump straight in. Instead, enter the water slowly to help your body adjust, and avoid swimming alone. Wearing a wetsuit can also help by improving buoyancy and reducing the effects of cold water.

Donโ€™t forget to have warm clothes ready for when you come back to shore.

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

A lovely calm evening for a bit of local knowledge training for some of the team this evening ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

Even after all the callouts, training never stops. Keeping familiar with the local coastline, access points and surrounding areas is a huge part of what we do and can make all the difference when the pager goes off.
