I completely understand everyoneโ€™s frustration with the unauthorised encampment on Haresfinch Park.

As soon as we were made aware yesterday afternoon, we reported it to the relevant council officers and contacted Merseyside Police, who said they would attend.

Unfortunately, neither councillors nor the police can simply tell people to leave council-owned land. The council has to follow a legal process first, and police powers only apply in certain circumstances.

Weโ€™re continuing to push for the quickest possible resolution, and Iโ€™ll provide an update as soon as I know more.

Today, we honour the brave men who answered their countryโ€™s call and fought on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

On this day in 1916, the British Army endured the bloodiest single day in its military history, suffering 57,470 casualties.

Their Name Liveth For Evermore.
