I completely understand everyone’s frustration with the unauthorised encampment on Haresfinch Park.

As soon as we were made aware yesterday afternoon, we reported it to the relevant council officers and contacted Merseyside Police, who said they would attend.

Unfortunately, neither councillors nor the police can simply tell people to leave council-owned land. The council has to follow a legal process first, and police powers only apply in certain circumstances.

We’re continuing to push for the quickest possible resolution, and I’ll provide an update as soon as I know more.

Community groups can benefit from up to £2,000 in funding thanks to a scheme being launched in September.

The Councillor Community Fund will give groups across St Helens the chance to bid for money between £250 and £2,000 thanks to the programme. Every councillor will be able to give up to £2,000 to deserving causes and groups can bid for funding in September and January.
