York Flood Alleviation Scheme

York Flood Alleviation Scheme The Environment Agency is undertaking a huge programme of flood defence improvements across York. We want to keep you informed throughout the process.

We are investing £17 million to upgrade the Foss Barrier, as well as £45 million to better protect 2000 properties across the city with new and improved defences. In addition, we’re looking at what can be done upstream to slow the flow of floodwater towards York, reducing risk to the city in the long term.

Over the last few weeks, we have been getting reports of people ignoring signs and breaking into the fenced off construction area on Rawcliffe Meadows.

These areas are fenced off for the safety of the public. Breaking onto the site is dangerous and could result in injury. We ask that members of the public respect the fencing and our clear signage for their own safety and that of others.
