Slough Fort Preservation Trust Slough Fort, in Allhallows, Kent over looks the Thames estuary and is Victorian, built in 1867.

This page is all about the group of Volunteers who are all working to restore the Fort back to is former glory - we meet once a month to work on this project and always welcome new volunteers to join us.

Casemate 4 has now had the lime wash and black paint applied to the walls/ceiling. Floor stained with first coat of stain (Antique Yew), it’s nearly presentable. Keeping our fingers crossed for a successful grant application to continue with the electrics in the near future.

The next piece of the shell lift has been made and installed, the upper block with pulleys, lower pulleys are being installed it hopefully won’t be long now before it works.

Reminder that both gates will be open at 7pm for the cafe which will be selling hot drinks, soup etc.

Event starts prompt at 8pm.

Free parking on site via the Brimp or walk through from Haven if you are staying there.

Work continues with the am******on lift in the east magazine, many challenges trying to make something when we only had some original parts and a drawing to go by, the rest we have had made. The timbers are attached to the uprights and the counter balance is in place.

Now that the water leak through the roof of casemate 4 has been fixed (broken internal down pipe) it’s nice to start putting things back. The walls have been cleaned up and ready for decoration. All the casemates have this lower half painted black and that’s where the decoration begins. The cafe had this as well but it has been shot blasted off for now (as instructed), to allow the walls to thoroughly dry out.

When we first started working in the barrack latrine room there were two left hand halves of window shutters, we have now had the right hand halves re made. They feature quick release pins on the hinges (presumably for quick removal) and mini r***e loops.

This week we have been concentrating on the shell lift in the east magazine, cutting and bolting on the hardwood runners to the uprights. These are sacrificial pieces of timber that the counter weight will run against. Soon we will start re assembling this within the lift pit/shaft.
