This week is National parkrun volunteer week. It is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the fantastic work that our parkrun volunteers do each week.

It is also a time to encourage everyone to have a go at volunteering or trying new roles. It is easy to sign up. Just follow the instructions on the slides or come and talk to us next time you are at parkrun. We look forward to welcoming you 😀.

We wouldn’t be able to run the event without our wonderful volunteers each week 💜💜💜

⚠️ Important ⚠️

You may have received an email from parkrun this week, but if you opted out of emails you may not know...

The agreement between parkrun and the company that provides the weekly texts for parkrun UK and parkrun Ireland is coming to an end.

This weekend , 23rd and 24th of May will be the last weekend that either parkrun or junior parkrun times will come via text.

The easiest way to get around this is to download the parkrun app, available free from whichever app store you use.

All you need to set up the app is
🌟 Enter your barcode number
🌟 Set a password.

All your parkrun stats and history will then be available for you to peruse 👀

This is a short read , but helpful to explain how the finish funnel works

parkrun is about the journey, but the finish funnel is a special part of the experience. It’s where your effort is officially recorded, volunteers cheer you through, and you connect with the people who shared the journey with you on that day. Whether you’re new to parkrun or just need a refre....

In welcoming everyone to parkrun, we on the core team at Arrow Valley would like to highlight some of the key things which help parkrun to run smoothly and keep everyone happy.

We appreciate many people don’t understand the process behind the scenes to get the results out .

In recent weeks we have had issues with our results created by people not following the rules around the funnel. This has then impacted other participants positions and causes a lot of additional time for the results processor , who is a volunteer .

Please ensure you read the following even if you are an experienced participant

1) Approach the finish line in single file. Our time keepers have to manually click your time so diving past others actually can result in finishers get missed.

2) When you’ve crossed the finish line, DON’T BE A FUNNEL DUCKER! Stay in the funnel in the order you finished and keep moving to allow other to cross the line. Don't stop to check your watch etc. If a relative has your personal barcode , this can be handed to you once you leave the funnel .

3) Do not allow anyone to join you to cross the line or in the funnel who has not completed the course. If you are encouraging friends stay well away from the finish line. Timing 500+ finishers can be a challenge .

3) DO NOT spit whilst in the funnel. It isn’t very nice and causes offence.

4) Make your way to the end of the funnel and take a token. Even if you have no bar code. Refusing just slows the funnel down. If you don't want your token you can hand it to a scanner or our comms person. Please do not leave the funnel until you have collected a finish token.

5) Once you leave the funnel, make your way to the scanners. Remember to give our finish tokens back. They cost us money to replace and we loose some most weeks.

6) Listen to and follow instructions from the marshals at all times.

Finally please treat the volunteers with RESPECT.

We have building works on the course. Rather than an automatic cancel we have put in place extra marshals and an adjusted course

Don't forget that this Saturday is parkwalk day for parkrun and as mentioned by Rhona last weekend, it would be great to have more walkers join us than ever before,

So please feel free to share this post to potentially encourage others.

If you've been thinking about whether to join us or not, but think you have to run, think again!

This could be the perfect weekend for you to start off your parkrun journey, with a parkwalk!

We usually have 2 or more parkwalker volunteers(sometimes more) and 2 tailwalker volunteers each week. So you will be supported around and someone there to chat with if that helps .

We meet by the ampitheatre by the playground at 08:45 for a pre event briefing and you will find out parkwalkers in blue high vis and tailwalkers in orange high vis.

Don't forget that if you've never registered then we can send you a results email later on Saturday, if you do, so you can recognise your personal achievement!
