Gary Slim for Central Ward

This is a very questionable situation.

Tuesday 26th May sees the Annual General Meeting of Redditch Borough Council.
This meeting determines the mayor and leadership for the forthcoming year.

Currently the largest party is Labour with 13 seats out of 27. Reform is the next largest group with 7 members.

Reform leadership are touting Cllr Roger Bennett as their choice of mayor - a man who was removed from mayoral duties in 2019 due to racist social media posts.

And in an even more bizarre twist Cllr Matt Dormer is claiming that he has enough support to take council leadership from the Labour Group.

This raises several questions.

1. Why are Reform planning to back a Conservative leader who has a tiny group of 4 members? This must surely be a major embarrassment for Cllr Pioli, leader of Reform.

2. ⁠Why would Cllr Dormer jump into bed with a group which caused him major embarrassment - and suspension from the Conservative Party - only a few months ago?

3. ⁠Why are independent councillors Cllr Joe Baker and Cllr Wanda King (who were elected under Labour banner) lining up to support the right wing parties?

4. ⁠Where does this leave Cllr Ashley Monk who recently left Reform over the leadership contest at Worcestershire County Council?

Central Ward is at a crossroads. We are currently neck-and-neck with Reform (both polling at 35%). This election is a straight choice between Labour and Reform. I’ve seen the hateful comments from Reform groups regarding the Peacehaven Mosque attack. Labour is the only party that can defeat Reform’s division. On Thursday, please re-elect me to keep our community united and strong.
A low turn out favours Reform, a high turn out favours Labour.

Labour is leading in Central Ward.

This election in Central is a straight contest between Labour and Reform UK.

A Labour Council offers stability, sound finances and investment in our Community.

Reform offers Chaos, In-fighting, Division and 8.98% Council Tax rises.

A vote for anyone but Gary Slim lets in Reform.

Reform do not care about local services.

Last night at Licensing Committee we voted to defer the decision on raising fees for taxi licensing.
We know that Uber are putting huge pressure on local taxi businesses.
In the light of current fuel price increases we need to investigate the impact of any further costs for our local taxi drivers.
Many residents rely on our local taxi services and we must protect their livelihoods as much as we are able.
