"If you want to live in a community that looks after people, you've got to be a part of that..."

As part of Volunteers' Week, we spoke to Ted, one of our volunteer Trustees, about his volunteering experience and why it fits so well with his passion for community.

Thank you Ted, it's great to have you on board as part of the team.

This is Helena, our Volunteer Services Manager, who had a busy morning on Tuesday chatting to lots of people who popped in to chat about volunteering opportunities.

It was a successful morning, with people signing up as drivers and talking about other opportunities with us, and with other Wokingham Borough-based charities who are looking for volunteers.

Thanks so much to all those who came to see us, and thank you also to all our brilliant volunteers; the drivers, the Green 'n' Tidy gardeners, and anyone else who volunteers for us. We couldn't do what we do without you!

Missed the coffee morning but want to find out more?

This week is 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸, when we acknowledge all those who give up their time and skills to benefit a charity or local community organisation.

It's also the perfect time to consider whether you'd be interested in any opportunities to give something back to your local community.

Volunteering is proven to be good for our own wellbeing. Getting involved and making a positive difference can be a very rewarding experience.

It's well-known that volunteering for a charity helps those who use the charity's services, but did you know volunteering has a positive impact on the volunteer too?

We've been talking to some of our volunteer drivers about what they get from volunteering, and there's a strong theme of enjoyment, and improved wellbeing, in what they had to say.

Thank you Peter, Richard, Mel, Brian and Neil for volunteering, and for taking the time to share your experience.

Interested in finding out more? We'd love to hear from you!

You'll have seen Mary before, talking about her role as a volunteer driver for us. Today she talks about her role as a volunteer trustee for the Centre.

The Government website defines charity trustees as "the volunteers who lead an organization, bearing ultimate legal responsibility for its governance, strategy, and overall management. They make decisions that ensure the charity fulfils its core purpose and operates legally, ethically, and efficiently."

Thank you Mary.

We love this time of year as we join together across the UK to celebrate the millions of volunteers who selflessly give their time to help others. We're going to be celebrating the wonderful volunteers of Wokingham Borough, and you can look forward to hearing from some of them this week about what they do and why they do it.

Don't forget our drop-in coffee morning TOMORROW from 10am-12pm, where you can find out more about volunteering by meeting some of our team.
