West Berkshire Council: Meningitis Information for Families

West Berkshire Council (WBC) has shared an update regarding a meningitis case affecting a pupil at Westwood Farm School in Tilehurst.

WBC is working with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), who are leading the public health response. UKHSA has confirmed that the wider risk to the school community is low, and parents and staff are being contacted directly with advice.

You can read the full update and find links to trusted health advice here:

Community Speed Watch Update

Our Community Speed Watch volunteers have been out and about again this year, helping to remind drivers to stick to the speed limits and keep our roads safe. Sessions will continue at various spots around the parish, focusing on encouraging safer driving rather than simply recording speeds.

The scheme runs in partnership with the police, with trained volunteers using approved equipment. Any vehicles found exceeding the limit are reported, and the police follow up with warning letters.

The team is growing, but there’s always room for more people to get involved. Just one hour a month can make a real difference.

If you’d like to join the team, or learn more, please send an email to [email protected].

Two butterflies took their first flight in Linear Park this morning!

After a month of being looked after by the children at Beansheaf Pre-school, including two weeks tucked up in their chrysalises, the butterflies finally made their big debut.

The children were so excited to let their little fluttery friends go… although the butterflies seemed quite happy to hang about for a bit before finally heading off into the park!
