Rossendale Male Voice Choir We are the Rossendale Male Voice Choir, filling the valley with song since 1924. We love singing and performing to all audiences.

We have celebrated our Centenary Year in 2024 plus also appeared on BGT in 2024 to finish off the year. Lancashire’s famous male voice choir, with over 90 years of rich musical history, is proud of its heritage but also looks to the future with enthusiasm and confidence, continuing its record of innovation and success.

A Right Good Sunday Concert (7th June)

It may come as no surprise that the Sunday concert showcasing the 2nd Rossendale Scout Group Band and the Rossendale Male Voice Choir was genuinely delightful.

The event kicked off with an engaging joint performance by the choir and band of “Baba Yetu,” composed by Christopher Tin and arranged by Roland Smeets. The choir’s soloist, Charles Crowley, added his unique flair to the opening.

The Rossendale 2nd Scout Group band then kicked off their first set with Hymns of Praise, arranged by Goff Richards. This was followed by Children of Sanchez by Chuck Mangione, arranged by Reid Gilje, featuring trumpet soloist George Stemp.

Concluding the set before the choir returned, the band played 12th Street Rag by Euday L. Bowman, arranged by Jack Peberdy, showcasing an impressive cornet trio with Leo Stemp, George Stemp, and Liam Jones.

The choir continued with a varied selection of performances, including:
"The Bandits Chorus" arranged by Sydney Northcote
"Panis Angelicus" arranged by Henry Geehl
"Donkey Serenade" arranged by Ernest Tomlinson
"The Two Roses" arranged by W. Werner

Additionally, we proudly introduced our first concert performance of "How Great Thou Art" arranged by Dan Forrest.

The Band concluded the first half with a first for them - a specially-commissioned piece composed by Dan Price entitled Northern Wakes: Postcards from a Bygone Era
This was a captivating piece in three sections:
I. Dark Satanic Mills
II. The Wakes Express: Ellingtonia Class
III. Albert and the Lion (Narrated by choir member Mark Stapleton).

Both the choir and the band certainly delighted the audience at the packed Lowther Pavilion Theatre and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this a great concert.

Saturday May 9th saw us at Haslingden Cricket Club helping to entertain the kind supporters of the Beacon Dementia Support Group.

Happy to support The Rossendale Ukulele Band (Hazzy) at this sumptuous “afternoon tea” sponsored and catered by the Emma Tesco Rawtenstall, Haslingden & Accrington. 💕💕

A very moving event which saw Peter Ratcliffe, a former stalwart of the top tenors, join us for one of his favourites “An American Trilogy”, with barely a dry eye in the house to see his joy at rejoining us, if only for one song.

Another surprise was a visit from one of our honoured guests, Molly Lancaster. Molly, daughter of one of our founding fathers, Joe Ashworth, just happened to be visiting family in the valley this weekend, and one of our members “invited” her to come along and listen to us.

True to form, the Tesco team welcomed her and her two daughters and son-in-law, inviting them to help themselves to the refreshments on the choir table!

Hopefully a good sum was raised, by a large group of keen supporters, who enjoyed both the entertainment and a “slap-up” meal!

Thanks to Heather Taylor for the photos.
